About this event

Join us for a Hike, Yoga and Forest Bathing class led by Laurence Turcios, Certified Nature and Forest Bathing Guide and ExploreMore Backyard Guide.

Explore More is here to bring you a fun outdoor community event where we will get in nature and soak up the fresh air. The hike will end with an introduction to Forest Bathing giving us the opportunity to slow down and relax. We want to give you the opportunity to explore new trails and activities while meeting new people and building confidence outdoors.

Cost: $30

Hike Length: approx. 3 miles

Event Overview: We will practice yoga for approximately 30 minutes. It will be a standing practice on a semi-even surface so no mat will be needed. Then we will talk about a few things such as outdoor and hiking ethics, what to do when you see a mountain biker coming etc. We will hike about 3miles.

Parking: There is plenty of free parking at Arbor Hill Nature Preserve but it does fill up so show up early. We will meet at the Pavilion.

What you bring: Please bring water and a snack if needed (but be sure to pack any trash out) and wear comfortable and weather appropriate clothes and tennis shoes. Trekking poles or a walking stick recommended if you would like assistance with avoiding tripping or assistance climbing hills. You will NOT need a yoga mat. Wear layers and make sure you will be warm.

What to expect: We will practice yoga for approximately 30 minutes and it will be a standing practice. Then we will hike 3-4 miles. You will also be introduced to Forest Bathing and learn how to use your senses to connect with Nature.

Get Physical: Recommended skills for this hike: The ability to listen and follow instructions, walk independently or with light assistance with a single point cane or trek- pole, lift feet 3 inches from the ground, move to the side quickly and the ability to not touch or ingest the flora and fauna.

DOBRA Trail: Yes. This trail is shared with mountain bikers but Arbor Hills is great because it has separate trails for hikers and mountain bikers so we should not run into any bikers. If we do, we will be walking the opposite direction of the bikers and may have to move quickly towards the side of the trail to allow them the pass. Dogs and kids must be able to follow the guide instructions immediately.

Trash Game: We want to leave the trail BETTER than we found it. A grocery sack will be provided. Glove wearing is welcomed. We will make it fun and have prizes for whoever picks up the most trash.

Family friendly: Yes! Your kids are welcome and FREE!! However, no strollers and make sure children can handle a 3 mile hike OR be held. Dogs are also welcome but must be on a leash and you must pack out poop. Be sure to have any baby carrying device you need and that kids and dogs can obey commands.

Weather disclosure: If weather does not allow us to have our event or recent weather has caused the trail to close, we will either use the paved trail at Arbor Hills, reschedule, refund your ticket price OR you can transfer to another event. Please check your email and the Facebook event for any updates.
