Zero Waste, EHS Regulations & Other Updates from NAEM

The mission of the Boston Area Sustainability Group (BASG)is to break down the silos of knowledge within sustainability, to assist the perpetual education of ourselves and our peers, and to grow a robust community of subject matter experts equipped to collectively drive sustainability forward. We are an affinity group of 1600+ sustainability professionals representing a myriad of industries, academia, government, NGO, and not-for-profit entities in the Boston area. For November 1st, we’re extremely fortunate to be able to bring our BASG members highlights from this year’s <A HREF="http://ehsforum.naem.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">NAEM’s EHS Management Forum</A>. The conference itself will have just wrapped in Denver the prior week, and is the largest annual gathering for environment, health and safety and sustainability decision-makers. NAEM is the National Association for Environmental Management.
Together with NAEM, our BASG team is grateful to have Johanna Jobin of Biogen and Frank Marino of Raytheon moderate an evening that will include several other speakers and feature highlights from the conference’s Zero Waste panel (e.g. living the zero waste journey), the Regulatory Trends panel (e.g. implications from 2015 Paris COP Agreement, REACH 2018, new TSCA requirements and potential circular economies), and two awesome IGNITE sessions.

 Johanna Jobin is Director, Global EHS & Sustainability at Biogen. In her role, Johanna promotes Biogen’s culture and vision about corporate citizenship through global sustainability programs (such as energy improvements to waste reductions) and through employee as well as stakeholder engagement. She is also responsible for Biogen’s corporate citizenship reporting and carbon neutrality strategy. Before Biogen, Johanna was Head of Corporate Responsibility & Community Affairs of MilliporeSigma. She received her Master of Environmental Management degree, with a certificate in Energy and Environment, from Duke and is an ISO 14001 trained auditor. Johanna is active with NAEM, USGBC, AIM, WPI, MSEP, the City of Cambridge Climate Protection Action Committee, and “e” inc. 
Frank Marino is a Senior Corporate Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability Manager at Raytheon. In his role at Raytheon, Frank is responsible for a variety of EHSS challenges including auditing, corporate social responsibility reporting, sustainability, injury prevention, OSHA VPP, zero waste, installing electric vehicle charging stations, and enterprise e-waste management. He also co-leads Raytheon’s Environmental and Sustainability Teams, is a Zero Waste Business Associate with the USZWBC, and has over 30 years of experience in industrial EHS management, including auditing manufacturing plants across computer, appliance, military hardware and aircraft industries. Frank has a master’s degree in environmental engineering from U Mass, Lowell.
