Join the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) for High Elevation Gardening, a community outreach and seedling dispersal series designed to provide Tahoe residents with the resources and information to garden successfully in our mountain environment. We are excited to bring the High Elevation Gardening programming to the following free events in Tahoe City!

Seedlings and seeds selected specifically for the Tahoe area are available for pre-purchase. Pre-purchase for pick-up by buying a ticket! Please carefully note each pick up date for the starts and seeds you purchase.


TERC will bring High Elevation Gardening programming to four community events across the basin:

  • Wednesday, April 22 (2:00pm-5:00pm): Tahoe City Earth Day Clean-up at California 89 (170 N. Lake Blvd in Tahoe City) *** must pick up leafy green pre-purchases on this day!! Visit the Tahoe Tree Company for their soft opening and grab all your garden supplies!
  • Sunday, May 17 (1:00pm-4:30pm): Fanny Bridge Dedication & Community Block Party at Gatekeepers Museum (130 W. Lake Blvd in Tahoe City) ***must pick up tomato pre-purchases on this day!!
  • Saturday, May 23 (2:00pm-5:00pm): Opening Day at the Lake at Heritage Plaza (570 N. Lake Blvd in Tahoe City) ***pre-purchase pick-up on this day may open depending on availability


Seedlings will include seasonal varieties of leafy greens, tomatoes, potatoes, beans, and peas, with availability varying by event and growing conditions. You can pre-order plant starts and seeds by purchasing a ticket. Pre-purchases must be picked up on April 22 (for leafy greens and potatoes) or May 17 (for tomatoes)!

Pre-order options include:

3 x 6 packs of leafy greens (3 different plant varieties, 18 seedlings total)

  • One 6-pack of kale (Lacinato, Red, or White Russian), one 6-pack of lettuce (Romaine, Oakleaf), and one 6-pack of mustard greens (Mizuna, Wasabini).

6 x 6 packs of leafy greens (6 different plant varieties, 36 seedlings total)

  • Two 6-packs of two kale types (Lacinato, Red, or White Russian), two 6-packs of two lettuce types (Romaine, Oakleaf), and two 6-packs of two mustard greens (Mizuna, Wasabini).

3 x 4-inch tomatoes (3 different plant varieties, 3 seedlings total)

  • Variety Pack: One 4-inch pot cherry tomato - Midnight pear, one 4-inch pot heirloom - Moskvich, and one 4-inch pot heirloom cherry tomato - Peacevine 1 variety bag of potatoes (3 different variteties) with (or without) 20 gallon felt planter

Potato Variety Bag

  • Potato mixed variety bag including: Red La Sota Potato, Actrice Yellow Potato, Bella Blanca Potato.

Potato Variety Bag and 20 gallon Felt Planter

  • Potato mixed variety bag including: Red La Sota Potato, Actrice Yellow Potato, Bella Blanca Potato with 20-gallon felt bag for planting.

1 variety bag of beans and peas (approximately 50 seeds)

  • 2 different varieties of beans and 2 different types of peas including: Blizzard Snowpeas, Cascadia Snap peas, Celine purple bush beans and Dragon Langerie bush beans.


A free compost giveaway on May 17 and May 29, generously donated by Full Circle Compost, their BOOST compost will support gardeners in building healthy soils and successful starts for the season. BYOB (Bring your own bucket!)
