The Whitehall Choir is one of Londonʼs leading amateur choirs. It has a varied repertoire including challenging unaccompanied pieces as well as larger choral works, and presents rarely performed pieces alongside favourite classics. A concert of lesser-known masterpieces by major Baroque composers

St Andrew Holborn

We&#x27;re looking forward to performing a programme of gorgeous early Baroque music at St Andrew’s Holborn.Whitehall Choir, along with organist Ian Tindale, and Peter McCarthy on bass viol will present some less well-known pieces by popular composers, and we hope you will discover and enjoy some hidden gems.We&#x27;ll perform the Magnificat of Johann Pachelbel, of course so famous for the Canon, and a thrilling work by Heinrich Schütz, his Musicalische Exiquien, or funeral music. Also featured is Monteverdi’s vibrant Dixit Dominus as well as passionate secular music by Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi and Francesca Caccini.The programme runs for about 1 hour 20 minutes. There will be time to mingle and chat with guests and the choir over wine after the concert.Do come along and share these stunning works with us!

Whitehall Choir, under its dynamic Music Director Joanna Tomlinson, is one of London’s leading amateur choirs.Joanna Tomlinson is also Principal Conductor of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain Girls’ Choir and Artistic Director of Constanza Chorus. Recent engagements include conducting Bach’s Mass in B minor at Cadogan Hall with Constanza Chorus and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.Ian Tindale, accompanist of Whitehall Choir, was awarded the Pianist’s Prize at the Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation Song Competition in 2017. Recent engagements include song recitals across Europe and the UK, including performances at the Leeds Lieder and Ryedale Festivals, and frequent appearances as a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.Peter McCarthy is a composer, double bass &amp; bass viol player. He was the bass player for The English Concert for 24 years, and still plays for St. James' Baroque (which he manages) as well as the viol consort, London Viols. He has written and lectured on the history of 17th and 18th century string bass instruments, and in his spare time runs Music in the Village, a concert series he started in Walthamstow now in its 21st year!
