High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST)

The Technology Transfer Program of the Kentucky Transporation Center bridges the gap between training and information needs and tight budgets for Kentucky transportation agencies. It can provide workshops and training events, how-to manuals, expert advice, legislative and regulatory news, on-site technical assistance and access to the only transportation library in the Commonwealth.

This webinar includes an overview of the High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) program and project details and data from Daviess County.

<p>The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) is a core federal aid program that utilizes a data driven process to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on all roads across the county. Kentucky’s HSIP program utilizes data to analyze Kentucky’s roadway network for crash locations that experience more wet pavement collisions than similar roadways across the state. High Friction Surface projects are then created for these identified locations across the state. Some Local roads are included in this analysis. In 2019, a local road received high friction surface through the HSIP program. </p>
