Hershey Area: All Things Diversity

Hershey Area - All Things Diversity is a free series of programs coordinated by Derry Township and The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue. The May presentation is titled Opening the Dialogue: Sharing Perspectives on Diverse Populations.
This panel discussion will provide an opportunity for Hershey community members of different backgrounds to share their experiences living or working in Hershey, and what we can do as a community to be more inclusive than we already are.
Panelists: Joseph Chubb was born and raised in Hershey and currently is a swim coach at Cedar Cliff High school. Joe is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College with a bachelor’s degree in both early childhood and special education. He was a leader at Hershey High School’s LGBTQ+ clubs and involved in a similar group in college called “Freedom Rings.”
Alicia McDonald, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at Penn State College of Medicine. She is a Cancer Epidemiologist focused on prostate cancer risk and infectious agents and cancer. She has lived in many places and has been residing in the Harrisburg/Hershey area for more than two years. She moved to Hershey in November 2017 after buying a home. 
Shivani Gupta was born and raised in Delhi, India. She holds a Master of English Literature and is a designer by profession. Shivani worked as an interior, graphic and web designer in Delhi before moving to the U.S. following her marriage 14 years ago. She works at TE Connectivity and resides in Derry Township. 
Sarah Ramirez, MD is originally from the Dominican Republic and settled in New Jersey where she attended university.  As a child, she watched how her parents' inability to master the English language meant that they couldn’t communicate clearly with their physicians. Sarah saw the crippling effect this had on the doctor-patient relationship. After obtaining her medical degree she returned to Maryland to complete her Family Medicine training during which she sought opportunities to enrich the lives of limited English proficiency Latino women through group prenatal care.  Following completion of an Obstetrics Fellowship she joined Penn State Health as Assistant Professor in Family and Community Medicine with a special focus on health disparities research and education.
