tbd. dance collective will premiere a new outdoor, site-specific performance in conversation with the architecture and natural features at Joslyn Art Museum on the Grand Lawn. Drawing on themes of change and transition, this performance explores concepts surrounding past, present, and future and the signficance of each of those stages both personally and communally.
Music Composition + Live Performance by Jim Schroeder, Megan Siebe, and Micah Schmiedeskamp.
Artistic Direction + Choreography developed collectively by Kat Fackler, Stephanie Huettner, and Gayle Rocz.
Guest Artist + Choreographic Commission: this performance features the premiere of three special, choreographic works created by KC based movement artist - Haley Kostas, set on the company during Kostas's residency at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.
Dancers will perform outdoors on a modular, wooden stage set within the Grand Lawn, as well as on sections of the large staircase leading up to the Joslyn Building.
Picnics are welcome and to-go menu items will be available for purchase at the Museum’s Durham Cafe.
WHERE TO SIT:
Audience members will sit in the grassy area facing the stage on the Grand Lawn. (See diagram below) Audience members will need to bring their own portable chairs and blankets. Please note that tarps, or any seating that stakes into the ground are prohibited. There are concrete benches, stairs, and raised areas along the perimeter of the Grand Lawn that audience members may sit on. We recommend arriving early in order to choose your seating location and get set up.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Seriously - bring your own seating or blankets! This is very important! Unless you plan on sitting on concrete steps or benches along the perimeter, neither tbd. or Joslyn will provideindividual seating in the grassy area.
- Sun Protection - the audience will be facing west during the time of the performance. The sun should be relatively low in the sky at this point, but please consider any sunscreen, hats, head protection, or sunglasses you might need.
- Bug Spray - This is also pretty important! It is summer time, we all know what that means…….MOSQUITOS! Please wear & bring bug spray as you will be sitting outside for the full performance. Please be mindful when applying the spray around other attendees.
- Snacks & Beverages - You are welcome to bring picnics, just make sure you pack out what you bring in as there are limited trash receptacles. We would like to leave the Grand Lawn, and outdoor areas at The Joslyn spotless after the performance - so please help us keep it clean and take your waste with you!
OR - visit the Durham cafe to get food or beverages before the performance!
WHAT TO EXPECT: The performance will be between 45 minutes and one hour in length and will begin around 7:00pm, possibly a few minutes after if folks are still trickling in/finding parking.
