Calling in a sisterhood of women who are ready to embrace & radiate the codes of their divine femininity through their hearts and their hips. Spirit lives within your flesh and bones and is ready to be shaken into deeper layers of embodiment (or should we say em-BOOTY-ment?) Release the tension and the shame, love yourself deeply, and unleash your wild woman!

This is a Cacao Ceremony designed for women to reclaim the potent life force that lives between their hearts & hips through movement, dance, and twerking.

Cacao is an ancient medicine that has been stewarded by the Mayan people for thousands of years. In ancient tradition, it has been connected to cycles of fertility and rebirth. These cycles live within our bodies. Cacao also opens us to our sensual nature– our ability to open, feel, and experience pleasure. The ancient stewards of this medicine also stress the importance of channeling this medicine into prayers for our collective healing journey.

We will open the space in the stillness of ceremony, calling in healing energies for our bodies, and opening our hearts to shower ourselves in deeper layers of self-love. Through gentle and intentional movements, we will warm-up our bodies for dance and deeper hip-opening. We will steadily elevate the vibrations, practice the art of twerking to open new channels inside of our bodies, and open the floor for the feminine essence to flourish. This space will close with deep stretching, grounding the energy, and elevating our movements into prayers. Harnessing the energy from this powerful form of dance, we will send this shakti into the places in the world that need it most.

Whether you are a seasoned twerker or shy about shaking your a**, this space is for all ability levels. Weaving together spiritual empowerment with a saucy dance party, together we will uplift one another to exemplify joy through all parts of our bodies.

About the Facilitator:

Dorothy is the co-founder of Cacao Source, a direct-trade ceremonial cacao company based in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. She has been serving cacao in sacred spaces since 2018, and spent four years learning with Mayan elders, the cacao trees themselves, the lands of cacao, and the stewards of cacao. She has co-facilitated 8 Cacao Training Programs for cacao practitioners in Lake Atitlan, as well as facilitated dozens of cacao ceremonies over the years, ranging from the small and intimate to hosting hundreds of people. Dorothy also has been sharing twerkshops for over a year now and watched the transformation and empowerment that happens when women can taste the nectar that activates through this form of dance.

Acknowledgements:

Twerking is an African fertility dance that originates from the Mapuka Tribe. Cacao has been celebrated by Mesoamerican lineages of the Olmecs, Toltecs, Aztecs, Maya, and Mexica for thousands of years and used in ceremonies to connect to higher wisdom. The intention of this space is to weave together ancient practices in a fun and innovative way to bring about healing for modern ailments. With deep respect and humbleness, I honor the original carriers of this wisdom and these practices.

Q&A

What should I wear?

Definitely wear something that connects you to your sensual nature. You are also welcome to wear layers and be prepared to strip a few off as you get warmer. Want to dance in your underwear? Sounds great!

I can’t twerk– will I embarrass myself?

There is a very high chance that you will leave this space with a much greater grasp on twerking. Once you align the “pop”, it becomes so much fun and healing for your body. Even if you don’t “get it”, just the intention and movement alone will open up a lot of space in your hips. We all have to start somewhere!

Who should not drink cacao?

People who are within the first 3 months of pregnancy should not drink a ceremonial dose of cacao, as well as anyone who has medical challenges with their heart. Also, anyone taking SSRI medication or anti-depressants should only have a little bit of cacao, or it can cause migraines.
