HELP! The Qweerdos Are Here!

Join us at "The Unmasked Coven"; 5 South Park Avenue, Lombard, IL, USA on Monday, June 24th from 11am-2pm for "HELP! The Qweerdos Are Here!" Taught through both the professional and guests perspective. We are excited to be joined by, Annie Hex (She/They) to articulate and share their personal experience as a Queer person in search of safer spaces. Hairstylists and hosts of the class, Faeth Leilani (They/Them) and Sarah Lawler (She/They), will be sharing their point of views as artist/service providers, through the personalization of their experiences as Queer individuals as well.

In addition to gaining valuable working knowledge, you’ll enjoy light eats, make meaningful networking connections with a variety of different service providers, and take home a pretty unique goody bag.

Meet the Educators!

"Annie Hex (she/they) is a queer performance artist, spoken word poet, community organizer, tarot reader, & witch. She creates dreamy, safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ folks locally in Aurora, Batavia, and everywhere her iconic pink van will take her.

She’s on a mission to spread queer joy, love, and magic. She fights to create spaces and home here for neurodivergent, queer trauma survivors like herself and anyone who has ever felt like they didn’t belong.

She curates spaces that radiate slumber party energy. She holds space for people to be themselves and feel gender euphoria. This is why she hosts a Queer Prom every pride. She wants to give folks the proms they didn’t have growing up and spaces where they can be unapologetically out! When she isn’t out in the world hosting events, performing, or working with queer youth, she is reading cards at her tarot speakeasy “The Pink Room” in Batavia...

All her work collectively is how she heals from growing up here closeted. Annie's on a mission to make the suburbs queer so that no one has to hide the way she once did. She takes up space with her audacious presence and hopes to inspire others to do the same..."

Come, or be a sponsor for her next prom on June 14th. Preorder her next poetry book, "Diary of a Little Spoon" at www.anniehex.com. Find her on the internet: @annie.hex

Faeth Leilani (They/Them), “Hair nerd” with a passion for both the science and art of Cosmetology. Their journey began as a bridal makeup artist a decade ago, but quickly they fell into a profound love for self-expression through hair. Now, Faeth co-owns a hybrid salon & barbershop, “The Unmasked Coven” in Lombard, IL with Sarah Lawler. Faeth brings with them a wealth of experience from photoshoots, fashion shows, and even film to their artistry.

Beyond the styling chair, Faeth is on a mission to create a safer space for marginalized communities, with a specific focus on BIPOC, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. As a partially-abled individual, they prioritize understanding and respecting their guests needs. For Faeth, it's not just hair; it's a canvas for euphoria, a playful celebration of individuality.

Sarah Lawler (She/They) is a triple licensed cosmetologist, barber, and educator. From a young age, Sarah grew up watching her mom do hair in the basement of their childhood home. Inspired by her mom, Sarah decided to pursue a career in cosmetology, with some of her first work being updos and makeup for high school homecoming and prom. Her experience also ranges from working in both a traditional barbershop and traditional salon settings, as well as teaching both students and professionals. Fast forward to the present, Sarah co-owns a hybrid salon & barbershop, "The Unmasked Coven" in Lombard, IL.

Both being a stylist and educator, it's Sarah's goal is to create a safe and welcoming space for all people because everyone deserves a space of their own.

For Sarah, it's more than "just hair", it's about who the hair belongs to, making that person feel like the best version of themselves.

You can find Sarah's work on Instagram @thesarahlawler and book with her via their website, theunmaskedcoven.com.
