Overview

During the workshop, Karolina will briefly introduce the Hebrew alphabet, Hebrew script typography, and the development of the Hebrew font.

The main part of the workshop will be dedicated to Hebrew calligraphy itself. Participants will try writing with calligraphic ink, pen, and brush, and will be able to try out multiple types of Hebrew script. The goal of the workshop is that each participant will take home his/her own calligraphic painting.

No prior knowledge of Hebrew script is required.

Duration: 120 minutes

About Karolina Kašeová

Karolina Kašeová teaches modern Hebrew and Yiddish at the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at Charles University in Prague. Since 2020, she has been dedicated to Hebrew and Yiddish calligraphy. In her paintings, she connects Yiddish poetry and the literary heritage of Jewish culture with the aesthetics of Hebrew script.
