Description

American Heart Association Heartsaver® Courses are classroom, video-based, instructor-led courses designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (for example, OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Students receive a course completion card that is valid for 2 years.

These courses are best suited for:

  • Child care workers
  • Teachers
  • Foster care workers
  • Camp counselors
  • Youth organizations
  • Coaches for children’s sports organizations
  • Others responsible for children including parents, grandparents, babysitters and guardians

Heartsaver® CPR will be held on March 12, 2018 from 5-9:30pm and teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Heartsaver® CPR (Child CPR AED, Infant CPR, Adult CPR AED) completion card that is valid for 2 years.

  • Adult CPR and AED use

  • Infant CPR
  • Adult, child, and infant choking
  • Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies
  • Written exam

Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid will be held on March 19, 2018 from 5-9:30pm and teaches students to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid course completion card that is valid for 2 years. This course does not include the supplemental training required by the State of Connecticut’s Office of Childhood (OEC) for Child Care Providers.

  • Broken bones and sprains
  • Eye injuries
  • Bleeding from the nose
  • Fainting
  • Head, neck, and spine Injuries
  • Penetrating and puncturing injuries
  • Poison emergencies
  • Seizure
  • Mouth and cheek injuries
  • Tooth injuries
  • Splinters
  • Written exam
