About this event

  • 4 hours

Each year we pick three or four of our clients and/or volunteers and ask them to share their life story with us and why they value the Sedalia Senior Center. We share this information with you at our Gala so your can put a face and story to the services we provide and really get a sense of how your support helps our community. What we do is so simply amazing that it's hard to realize what it means not only to the community but to those of us that provide the services.

Our theme this year is the 70s! Come dressed in costumes - the funkier the better, prepare to enjoy music from the decade and we promise to stop short of jello molds! You will enjoy an evening of music, laughter, great food (catered by a local catering company) and have the opportunity to learn more about what we do and meet some of the clients we serve. A cash bar will be provided by The End Zone and in honor of the 70s, they will provide a Pina Colada as our signature drink!

We have silent auction items available (really cool stuff); we plan a live auction with some interesting items and perhaps a pop-up game or two! We're planning a photo booth so you can have a memory keepsake! You'll have to join us to see all the fun we have planned.

The Venue is a great spot for a gathering. There is parking on Ohio Street and there's also a large parking lot behind the building with a back door entrance. The building is ADA accessible.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Sedalia Senior Center?

The Center is one of 20 non-profit senior centers operated by Care Connection for Aging Services. We provide services and resources that enable individuals 60 and older to create a healthy aging experience. Our vision is that the people we serve will live with independence, respect and dignity.

What services and resources does the Center provide?

We provide meals, education, recreation and fitness. The Sedalia Center provides over 5,000 meals a month to clients at the Center and clients that are homebound. We provide education on all types of topics and play bingo and other games several times a week.

How many people work at the Sedalia Senior Center?

All of our Centers rely on a large team of volunteers to help us provide our services. We have a kitchen staff of four dedicated individuals, a coordinator and an HDM coordinator. Our team in Sedalia, nearly 50 volunteers, provided over 3,400 hours to help us deliver services to our clients.

How much do these services cost the clients?

We provide our services and resources at no cost to our clients - we only ask them contribute what they can.

How does the Sedalia Senior Center fund these services then if the clients don't have to pay ?

The Sedalia Senior Center receives funding from the Older Americans Act, state funding for Medicaid services, some contributions from our clients but the bulk of our funding must come from the community - from events we hold throughout the year including our signature Gala Event - Hear our Stories.

How can I help this amazing Senior Center continue to provide services to our community?

You can help us by being an event sponsor or donor at any of our fundraising events, by simply donating to the center, or by volunteering to help us realize this amazing vision.
