Join Spoken Black Girl for our 3rd Annual Healing Through Writing Workshop on November 22nd at Cafe Con Libros in Brooklyn, NY! Unwind with a relaxing evening of self-expression, support, and community, led by Spoken Black Girl Editor-in-Chief, Rowana Abbensetts and co-host Lana C.Marilyn, the author of Wet Sand in an Hourglass and founder of the Lit Exhibit event series!

About Lana C. Marilyn
Lana C. Marilyn is a Brooklyn native interdisciplinary literary artist of Afro-Caribbean descent. Her practice includes zinemaking, collage, and performance to enrich storytelling as a sensual,  social, and immersive experience. Additionally, Lana curates and produces literary events in Brooklyn, NY. When not writing, she likes to overshare her feelings on Twitter and Instagram (@cinniie).

Spoken Black Girl is a different kind of media company, focused on telling the stories of women of color navigating their journeys to better mental, physical, and spiritual wellness. The aim is to empower as many people as possible through the art of storytelling while sharing the knowledge needed for growth and transformation. SBG makes an impact through publishing the work of emerging women of color writers, holistic wellness events, writing workshops, and other media-related services.
 
About Rowana
Hey there! Welcome to the Spoken Black Girl community. SBG started in 2015 as my personal blog. As a lifelong writer and someone who deals with anxiety and depression, I felt the need to record my experiences and the self-care methods I was using to take my life back. What started as a couple of blog posts quickly turned into a growing community of women seeking healing and support. Four years later, SBG has given me the opportunity to host events, speak on panels and podcasts, publish my writing, and speak my truth to all who will listen. I think of myself as a “Wellness Facilitator” or someone who creates safe physical and digital spaces to discuss mental health, wellness & self-care. Along the way, I’ve connected with countless amazing souls, shared my passion for writing as a healing tool, and elevating voices that otherwise might not be heard. 
 
About the Venue
Cafe con Libros (coffee with books) is a Feminist community bookstore catering to folks, specifically womxn and girls, who are book lovers, coffee aficionados, or both. We aim to provide space for anyone seeking a community of readers and thinkers and, to spread the love of reading as a source of healing and joy.
