This year's SafeStart Annual Training will be presented by Dominique Mack, the visionary behind Community Rx. Participants will explore healing-centered practices that support overall well-being, confidence, and leadership. This session offers practical tools to build self-trust, restore energy, and lead with compassion, clarity, and courage.

The training will be a full day consisting of a morning session, lunch, and an afternoon session. Registrants are encouraged to plan on attending the full day to get the most out of the materials.


The morning session will be:

Healing Practices for the Compassionate Leader

This interactive training adopts a healing-centered and equity-based approach to equip practitioners with the tools and strategies needed to cultivate compassionate, balanced, and sustainable leadership. Participants will explore practical methods to address burnout, set boundaries, and lead with trauma-informed principles fostering resilience in their organizations and communities.


Training Objectives:

1. Grounding Techniques and Community Care Practices: Equip participants with grounding methods and models of community care to enhance focus and presence in their roles.

2. Identify Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Boundaries: Develop the ability to recognize signs of burnout and compassion fatigue, with actionable strategies for setting and maintaining healthy boundaries.

3. Trauma-Informed Leadership: Build skills in applying trauma-informed principles within philanthropy, promoting empathetic and resilient workplace cultures.


Training Highlights:

● Grounding Exercises: Engage in mindfulness practices such as breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and visualization to promote calm and focus.

● Burnout and Compassion Fatigue Awareness: Learn how these challenges manifest uniquely in BIPOC and low-income communities, and explore tools to address them effectively.

● Boundary-Setting Practices: Participate in exercises to identify and strengthen professional and personal boundaries.

● Trauma-Informed Leadership Role-Play: Practice responding to workplace scenarios with empathy and resilience.


The afternoon session will be:

Building Confidence and Self-Esteem

This empowering and transformative training is designed to help participants build confidence, enhance self-esteem, and develop essential skills for meaningful personal and professional relationships. In a supportive, healing-centered space, attendees will explore their identities, reflect on values, and engage in interactive exercises that foster self-awareness, compassion, and resilience.

Training Objectives

1. Increase Self-Awareness Explore identity beyond roles and titles. Reflect on personal beliefs, values, and worth.

2. Enhance Self-Esteem Learn self-assessment tools to improve self-image. Practice affirmations and guided reflection.

3. Build Confidence in Relationships Strengthen verbal and non-verbal communication. Learn how to build trust and follow through effectively.

4. Develop Practical Networking Skills Master authentic engagement and relationship-building. Set realistic goals for social and professional growth.

5. Promote Personal Growth & Healing Engage in journaling, visioning, and self-forgiveness practices. Create a personal legacy plan centered on healing and wholeness.

6. Provide Ongoing Support Receive curated resources for continued development. Leave with tools to sustain confidence beyond the training.


Meet the trainer!

Dominique Mack is a writer, advocate, and consultant with over 15 years of experience in human services, dedicated to supporting marginalized communities facing violence, poverty, crisis, environmental harm, and homelessness. As the visionary behind Community Rx, she facilitates healing, creates strategic solutions, and advances equitable access through writing, training, and engagement. A proud Brunswick, Georgia native and mother, Dominique’s work is deeply rooted in family, community, and Black liberation. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work from Florida State University and brings expertise in policy integration, advocacy, and best practices that center people of color and marginalized communities. Outside of her work, she enjoys cooking, planning experiential dining experiences, and embracing rest and pleasure, crediting her grandparents and godmother for instilling in her the values of education, community, and faith.

The training will be held in the Audre Lorde Room of the Women's Building located at 3543 18th St #8, San Francisco, CA.
