HOW ARE THE STUDENTS TRANSPORTED?

We travel by way of a luxury bus complete with a DVD player, stereo, seat chargers, and a restroom. We use buses that meet all state and federal inspection requirements and have outstanding safety records and proof of insurance.

WHAT ARE THE LIVING ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE TOUR?

Students and chaperones will stay nightly at an established national hotel chain. Males and females are housed on separate floors with two people per room.

WHO ARE THE CHAPERONES FOR THE TOUR?

Female chaperones are members of the Delta Rho Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Our male chaperones are volunteers known to members of the Delta Rho Omega chapter.

HOW ABOUT THE MEALS?

During the college tour, students will have lunch on college campuses in student dining halls. This gives students an opportunity to experience college life in as many phases as possible during the tour. We eat continental breakfast at the hotels each morning and a buffet style dinner each night.

WHICH SCHOOLS WILL THE STUDENTS VISIT?

The students will visit 10 Historically Black Colleges & Universities: Morgan State University, MD; Howard University, Washington, DC; Norfolk State University, VA; Hampton University, VA; North Carolina A & T State University, NC; North Carolina Central University, NC; Clark Atlanta University, GA.

WHAT ARE OUR RESPONSIBILITIES PRIOR TO AND AFTER THE TOUR?

• Mandatory Parent/Student Orientation and Interview on 3/16/24.
• Four (4) workshop sessions on 3/23/24, 3/30/24, 4/6/24 and 4/11/24 - all sessions are mandatory, however, students may miss a maximum of one (1) session with a valid written excuse.
• Wrap-up/ Parent Debriefing Session on 5/4/24

WHAT IS THE PARENT/STUDENT ORIENTATION AND INTERVIEW?

Conducted one week prior to the workshops, the parent/student orientation is an informational session for parents and students. Attendance is mandatory – The session will take place on 3/16/24 from 10 am - 12 noon at Medgar Evers College Preparatory School, 1186 Carroll Street, Brooklyn, NY 11225.

WHAT ARE THE WORKSHOP SESSIONS?

Workshops will be held on Saturdays at Medgar Evers College Preparatory School from 10 a.m. to 12 noon • PSAT & SAT Prep - 3/23/24 • College Application Process /Essays & Personal Statements - 3/30/24 • Scholarship and Financial Aid - 4/6/24 • HBCU Panel - College Life - 4/11/24 via Zoom

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP SESSIONS?

Workshops are designed to enhance a college bound student’s skills (study habits, test taking, etc.) and to get them familiar with the college experience. It is also an opportunity for the students to get to know each other. Students may miss a maximum of one (1) session with a valid written excuse.

WHAT IS THE WRAP-UP/PARENT DEBRIEFING SESSION?

Conducted after the tour on May 4, 2024 at Medgar Evers College, students will discuss the college tour experience with parents and chaperones. A college tour report summarizing the schools visited is presented to parents and students. Students will complete evaluation forms.

Question 11

HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD THE STUDENTS BRING ON THE TOUR?

We suggest that students bring at least $50 and no more than $150. This money will cover souvenirs and miscellaneous expenses.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE COLLEGE TOUR?

The college tour is open to all high school students grades 10 – 12 on a first come, first served basis. All students are interviewed prior to the tour’s departure during the workshops.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?

Accepted Answer

We accept applications on an ongoing basis until all seats are filled, after which a waiting list will be started. A $150 non-refundable deposit and completed application are required to reserve a seat on the bus. You will receive a confirmation email when your application and deposit are received.
