To learn about a phenomenal opportunity that has not existed for the last 15 years! In conjunction with our contractor, Enviroservices and Training Center the HDOA will begin offering a pesticide disposal program for commercial applicators.

What is a pesticide disposal program?

The HDOA's Pesticide Disposal Program is an available, affordable, and environmentally friendly way for proper pesticide disposal. The disposal program will provide commercial users of pesticides with an opportunity to safely dispose of, for FREE, up to 250 lbs of unwanted pesticides.

Why do we need a pesticide disposal program?

Without a proper avenue for disposal, pesticide wastes will continue to pose a risk to our water quality, the surrounding natural resources, and your health, especially in the event of a fire, leak, accidental poisoning, or severe weather event.

What is the Goal of the pesticide disposal program?

Accepted Answer

The primary goal of the pesticide disposal program is to minimize the health and environmental impacts associated with the generation, storage, transportation, treatment, and disposal of waste pesticides.

Question 5

What type of wastes are accepted in the disposal program?

Accepted Answer

Includes, but is not limited to…canceled, suspended, unwanted, unlabeled, unused, banned, or expired pesticides. The product must be able to be identified as a pesticide.

What type of wastes will not be accepted?

Accepted Answer

Explosive materials, Gasoline-Motor oil-& other petroleum products, Paints, Medical wastes, Radioactive materials, Fertilizers, Pesticide rinsate, Degreasers, Surfactants, Antifreeze, Batteries, tires, electronic waste, food waste, Pressurized gas cylinders, Intermediate Bulk Containers.

What if my wastes are unknown?

If you have unknown materials, they will need to be tested prior to the collection event.  Our hazardous waste contractor will collect samples of the unknown substance and attempt to ID the chemical.

Question 8

Who’s eligible to participate?

Accepted Answer

Eligible participants include farms, such as, nurseries, greenhouse operators, crops, and livestock.  Additionally, pesticide dealers, licensed pest control operators, golf course operators, landscape professionals, certified commercial & private applicators and other commercial pesticide users.

Are homeowners eligible?

Accepted Answer

Homeowners are ineligible for this program. If you or someone you know who has chemicals at their house or apartment, visit the your county's waste disposal webpage for more information.

How do I register?

How much does it cost to participate?

Accepted Answer

FREE disposal for up to 250 pounds of canceled, suspended, unwanted, or unlabeled pesticides per eligible participant.

Question 12

What if I have more than 250 pounds of pesticides that need disposed?

Accepted Answer

Participants contributing more than 250 pounds of pesticides would need to enter into a separate disposal agreement with the contractor at the same reduced payment rate billed to the HDOA.

Question 13

What will happen to the information listed on my registration form?

Accepted Answer

During the collection event, the contractor will verify the registration form and the pesticides listed for disposal.

Question 14

What happens if waste pesticides are in containers that are leaking?

Accepted Answer

Is my participation confidential?

Accepted Answer

Your participation is confidential.  Your privacy matters.  No information that could personally identify you or your business will be published.  Participants will remain anonymous and any information collected by the contractor will be kept confidential.

Question 16

Will the HDOA use my participation in the program to prosecute for illegal management of pesticides?

Accepted Answer

The HDOA will not use your participation in the pesticide disposl program to prosecute for illegal management of pesticides…NO ENFORCEMENT ACTION WILL BE TAKEN!

Question 17

What should I do if I cannot handle the waste or transport it to the collection site?

Accepted Answer

If you cannot handle the waste, please contact EnviroServices & Training Center for assistance (808-456-3494 or wm@gotoetc.com).

Should I throw out my unwanted/unused pesticides?

Accepted Answer

Please refrain from discarding you unwanted/unused pesticides.  Improper disposal of waste pesticides may result in surface or groundwater pollution, as well as, pose a threat to humans and animals.

Will this be a recurring disposal event?

Accepted Answer

Treat this as your one shot to get rid of your pesticide waste.  15 years ago was the last time this event happened.
