Haunted Train

The Haunted Railroad is operated by the Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources, Inc. (SPCRR) in association with the East Bay Regional Park District.The SPCRR is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation operating The Railroad Museum at Ardenwood.  The museum focuses on the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of narrow gauge railroads in California.

Ardenwood Historic Farm

<h3>We are excited to have the Haunted Train running again after being closed for three years due to Covid. </h3><h2>Climb aboard the HAUNTED TRAIN for a spooky (not scary) ride through the haunted forest at Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont. This ride is designed especially for families with children under 12. Live actors supply the fun and you will encounter the famous Witch of Ardenwood and other characters. There are colorful Halloween displays in between the scenes. Nothing will jump out or frighten young children. For 30 years we have been supplying Halloween fun for all ages.</h2><h3>Trains operate every 30 minutes between 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm on Friday and Saturday nights; and between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Sunday nights, on the two weekends before Halloween:  October 20, 21, 22; and October 27, 28, 29.</h3><h3>All children must be accompanied by an adult. Because the ride is at night, for safety reasons every child under the age of 4 must sit on an adult's lap, which will also give them a better view.</h3><h3><strong>ARRIVE AT LEAST 45 MINUTES OR MORE BEFORE YOUR TRAIN DEPARTURE TIME.</strong> Make sure you also allow plenty of time for Bay Area traffic. We will open the gate for each train’s ticket holders 30-45 minutes BEFORE your scheduled train time. </h3><h3>If you miss your train you will will not get a train ride! The Haunted Train sells out, therefore there are no seats on later trains. <strong>Double-check the dates and times of your tickets before purchasing! TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE, NO EXCHANGES, No Exceptions. </strong></h3><h3>NOTE: This event is very popular, and we expect all trains to sell out quickly.</h3><h3>Please read all of the FAQs before purchasing your tickets...</h3><h2>FAQs</h2><h3>IMPORTANT NOTICE – Use the EVENTBRITE PHONE APP to show proof of purchase at the entrance. We also suggest you take a screenshot of your cell phone tickets to make sure you have them available just in case you lose cell coverage. REMEMBER… arrive at least 45 minutes before your train departure time!</h3><h3>Tickets are non-refundable, and there are No Exchanges - NO EXCEPTIONS. Please double-check the dates and times of your tickets before purchasing.</h3><ul><li><em>ENTRANCE/FREE PARKING</em> - The entrance is located at the Ardenwood train station. Park at the Ardenwood Historic Farm parking lot at 34600 Ardenwood Blvd, Fremont, CA. To guarantee your seats on the train be sure to<strong> arrive a MINIMUM of 45 minutes before your scheduled train departure </strong>time. Show your tickets using the Eventbrite App at the entrance when your train departure time is called. When called, line up to enter the train station. Please drive SLOWLY! It is very dark and there will be families with small children walking to and from the train entrance.  </li><li><em>REFUND POLICY</em> - <strong>Tickets are non-refundable, and there are no exchanges once purchased.</strong> The ONLY exception is when trains do not operate due to a weather event, such as high winds or heavy rain. See the section below titled “What if it’s raining?” for more details.</li><li><em>How early should we arrive? </em>Arrive a MINIMUM of 45 minutes before your train departure time. Make sure you allow plenty of time for the Bay Area traffic. Seats on all trains are first-come, first-seated (no holding seats). Your party must line up together to make sure your party gets to sit together. MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN LINE 45 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR TRAIN DEPARTURE TIME. We will call each train at least 30-45 minutes earlier than your departure time, so arrive plenty early! For example, if you have 7:30pm tickets, then you should arrive no later than 6:45pm. LEAVE HOME IN PLENTY OF TIME TO GET THROUGH THE TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY ON FRIDAY NIGHTS.</li><li><em>What happens if I am late for my train? </em>No refunds for late arrivals, NO EXCEPTIONS. All of our trains sell out so there are no seats on a later train.</li><li><em>How many tickets can I buy?</em> You can buy up to 120 tickets.</li><li><em>Can we reserve a train car for our group?</em>  You can reserve a private car, but you must purchase 30 seats (you can bring fewer people, but you still must buy 30 tickets). Contact us at the email below after you purchase your group’s tickets (one person must purchase ALL tickets for the group). We will email you instructions on where to meet so we can board your group first. If you have more than 30 people in your group, you can purchase 2 cars (60 seats); 3 cars (90 seats); or purchase the whole train (120 seats).</li><li><strong>Do NOT attempt to buy tickets from Ardenwood Historic Farm staff during the day. </strong>The Haunted Train is a fundraiser for our nonprofit railroad museum and the regular Park staff does not have access to Haunted Train tickets.</li><li><em>How "Scary" is the ride?</em> The ride is spooky, never scary. We developed this event 30 years ago to provide a fun Halloween experience suitable for families with children under age 12. NOTHING WILL JUMP OUT, AND THERE ARE NO LOUD NOISES. We do use a speaker system on the train so that riders can hear the actors and the narrator. The train passes through a dark forest with illuminated scenes that include actors which are separated by colorful Halloween decorations. The narrator on board the train provides a fun story. There is no gore or violence. You can get an idea what to expect by looking at some photos of past Haunted Trains at the <a href="https://www.pbase.com/spcrr/halloweentrains" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SPCRR Halloween Trains</a> photo gallery. </li><li><em>H﻿ow long is the ride?</em> The ride is approximately 20 minutes long.</li><li><em>Are food and drinks allowed on the train? </em>No food or drinks are allowed. The train is made up of historic railroad cars built over 100 years ago.</li><li><em>What type of clothing should we wear?</em> The train operates outdoors in open railroad cars. Wear suitable clothing for the weather—it can be cold and windy at night and occasionally we have rain. If rain is predicted, bring raincoats or ponchos since some of the cars are not covered. Children can wear costumes as long as they are no wider than the child’s body. Costumes must not interfere with the person seated next to the child… anything that protrudes, such as fairy wings or super hero wings, is not allowed. Costumes that might frighten small children are definitely NOT PERMITTED (no ghoul or scary masks, no exceptions). For safety we do not allow masks on any teenagers or adults. Also, no costumes with lights are allowed because they will interfere with safe train operations at night. </li><li><em>What if it is raining? </em>The trains will run in the rain as long as it is safe to operate. Typically weather is dry and cool. Refunds will be given only if there is heavy rain or high winds. If there is heavy rain or high winds before trains start operating, and the weather service predicts the rain will continue that evening, we will send out an email notice to Eventbrite ticket holders on that date notifying them of the train cancellation and we will refund your tickets and associated fees. This has only happened a few times since we began this event 30 years ago.</li><li><em>Can I take pictures or video while on the ride? </em>Yes but with some restrictions. Video and photography are allowed before, during, and after the ride but you cannot stand when the train is in motion and you must <strong> TURN OFF YOUR FLASH</strong>. This is a safety concern because the flash can affect the night vision of the train crew. Please be respectful and keep your camera low so you do not block the view of the other passengers.(No commercial photography or videography--please contact the event organizer at info@spcrr.org for more information.)</li><li><em>You sound like a fun group, so how can I get involved? </em> We ARE a fun group! If you would like to become a volunteer, email info@spcrr.org. We are always looking for volunteers to be actors on the Haunted Train, as well as people to help us put together and decorate the sets each night; take-down the sets each night; organize people into lines at the entrance, and more.
