About this event

What’s the difference between a happy hiker and a sad hiker? Our second annual Happy Hiker series, of course! Join us for six evening programs that include basic lessons on how to be a happy hiker, including first aid, map reading, choosing the right gear, and natural history. Based on the Hiker’s Ten Essentials and Leave No Trace principles, each evening program will include nature knowledge nuggets and a short, easy hike to practice what we’re learning! This series, full of fun activities, mini-challenges, and the opportunity to practice new skills will help make every hike safer and more enjoyable.

Join us for the last evening of the 2024 Happy Hiker series with a relaxing stroll on the Enola Low Grade Rail Trail to catch the sunset over the York County River Hills. Learn about Pennsylvania’s amazing rail-to-trail system and add these routes to your hiking bucket list! We will present finishers of the whole Happy Hiker series with a special hiking gift.

What to Expect We will hike a short section of moderate trail to access the Enola Low Grade Rail Trail. The main stretch of the hike is flat, packed stone dust surface. The total hike is approximately 2 miles. We will finish at or near dark. There is a restroom available on site.

What to Bring Dress for the weather and pack a headlamp. Wear the hiking shoes or boots you prefer to hike in. Bring water.
