Handling Sibling Rivalry

My daughter began asserting herself right about at her first birthday. She started with the noodle,where she would go boneless to free herself from my grasp. As she got older, she developed more sophisticated ways of saying no. As a parent, I had decided before she was born that I didnt want to spank, yell or use time-outs as parenting strategies. As this headstrong girl got older those tools looked more and more appealing. Before trying those options out, I found a parenting class that interested me called Redirecting Childrens Behavior, or RCB. A colleague of mine was teaching it at a local church and I decided to check it out.RCB validated my desires to raise my daughter in a loving and supportive way while offering me effective tools to guide her in ways that worked for the entire household. I knew I wanted a self-assured, confident, creative child. I also wanted a child that respected othersboundaries and needs. I wanted to raise a child that was empathetic to others and could cooperate with peers and adults. The RCB class offered me a flexible framework that I believed in to raise my daughter.After taking the RCB class, I began teaching parenting classes with young parents, primarily girls in high school. I was trained in the Incredible Years for Babies and Toddlers curriculum. In April 2013, I completed the training program for teaching Redirecting Childrens Behavior and am excited to teach it in my local community of central Austin.
