About this event

  • 2 hours

Arlene Wren was taught the joy of sewing by hand by her paternal grandmother. Her first project at the age of three was to help darn wool socks using a wooden egg and yarn! Once that task was mastered, her grandmother began to teach her the finer sewing arts of quilting, braiding woolen rugs, embroidery, crewel and needlepoint. The greatest joy was working along side her grandmother and spending quality time with her. While projects can be made more quickly with a sewing machine, it is nice to have hand sewn projects that are portable. If you have a long drive in the car or are visiting family and friends, a hand sewing project is easy to take along with you.

This class will teach the students how to make a quilted pot holder with hand sewing techniques. There will be a selection of blueberry and lobster themed fabric to choose from along with compatible bindings and backing fabric. Each participant will learn how to complete the hand sewing for each potholder and should be able to complete one potholder during the class time. There will be enough supplies for four potholders per student.
