About this event
In a world dominated by the whine and roar of power tools, the subtle art of hand planing has largely been forgotten. We often relegate hand planes to dusty shelves or occasional touch-ups, missing out on their incredible potential. This class will rekindle your appreciation for these remarkable tools, revealing just how effective and versatile they can be. You'll gain a deep understanding of how hand planes function and, more importantly, how to make them perform at their best. We'll cover essential techniques including:
- Setting up your plane: Learn the fundamentals of preparing your plane for optimal use.
- Sharpening: Master the art of achieving a razor-sharp edge for clean, precise cuts.
- Tuning: Discover how to fine-tune your plane for superior performance and effortless planing.
- Practical applications: Get hands-on experience using your plane for:
- Edge jointing: Achieve perfectly straight and square edges for seamless joins.
- Planing end grain: Smoothly and efficiently tackle the notoriously difficult end grain.
- Surfacing: Create beautifully flat and smooth surfaces.
For the most beneficial experience, we highly recommend bringing your own hand plane. This will allow you to tune it up under expert guidance and receive personalized, hands-on training tailored to your specific tool. All participants receive a 15% discount on merchandise purchased in the store on the same day of their class. Exclusions apply. Consider 1 on 1 private instruction. Learn exactly what you need at your own pace: that's what 1-on-1 private instruction is all about. We also offer group classes for up to 12 students for corporate / office team building events or just fun with friends. Contact store for more details at (913) 815-2002.
