What should I bring with me?

Please come with a laptop or similar device which can connect to a public wifi.

Who should come?

Accepted Answer

This event is for anyone 18 years or older with an interest in digital technologies and how to utilise tools to make sense of large sets of data in creative and innovative ways. A perfect event for students or similarly digital artists early on in their careers.

Question 3

Do I have to attend both days?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's important to attend both days so you have ample time to develop your ideas and then pitch them to others towards the end of the second day.

Question 4

Can I come on my own or should I bring a team of people?

Accepted Answer

Either is fine with us! If you have colleagues or friends you like to work with and want to come as a group of 5 or less people that is great! Alternatively, if you want to come on your own we will also be grouping people in to small teams to develop their ideas.

Question 5

If I come as a team of people, do we all have to book a ticket?

Accepted Answer

Yes, every person who attends the event needs their own ticket so we can manage capacity in the room.

Why are you doing this?

Accepted Answer

Ancoats: the Hallé Story is a project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to test out new ways of encouraging people to engage with the Hallé archive. We are looking for new ways to tell stories within the archive using different creative technologies.

I have a dietary requirement or allergy you should know about

Please contact Ben White via email on B.White@mmu.ac.uk if you have a dietary requirement or allergy that we should know about when providing food and drink at the event.

What will the event look like?

Accepted Answer

Imagine a large room, with people sat at tables and chairs in small groups with laptops. Ben White will speak at the beginning by introducing the brief and sharing the data. You will then work on developing your idea in groups and finally present your idea to other teams and Hallé staff at the end.

Question 9

I want do develop an idea on my own and not work with others, can I still come?

Developing an idea as a one person team is also completely fine! We understand some people prefer to work independently. However, you must be open to communicating with other teams throughout the weekend.
