What will the agenda for this event be?

After a brief introduction to Arcadia, we’ll provide an optional refresher on making contributions on GitHub and then get hacking! We’ll provide a list of suggested biotech-related repositories and issues that we can contribute to, but participants can contribute to any repository they wish.

What kind of equipment will be needed?

We recommend everyone to bring their own laptops. Wifi details will be shared upon arrival. We do have limited charging capacity, and strongly recommend everyone to arrive with a fully charged device.

Do attendees need to stay for the full time?

Attendees can head out when they are finished with their contributions or if they need to step away early. It is not mandatory to stay until 5pm, though everyone is certainly welcome to!

What kind of skill is required?

We expect people who participate to come in already prepared to contribute. However, skills come in all shapes and sizes! We expect most people will know how to: 1) program in a language like  python, bash, or R, or 2) read and contribute to documentation to improve user or developer experience.

Will I need a GitHub account to participate?

You do not need a GitHub account, though you can use yours if preferred. If you don't have one and would like to make one, we can help you get set up during the event.

Which GitHub repositories should we be working on during the hackathon?

We are not working on Arcadia's own repositories. We have a curated list of repositories that the community has suggested, though participants may work on whichever they wish. The goal is to do this work to give back to the open source community.

Is there a dress code?

Is parking available?

If driving, you'll likely find free street parking outside our suite. If not, you'll find rooftop parking on 67th Street next to loading dock #6 (narrow driveway up). From the rooftop, you will take the elevator to floor 1, and Arcadia Science will be immediately in front of you.

What if I am arriving via public transit or rideshare?

Our address is 3100 San Pablo Ave, Ste. 120, Berkeley, CA 94702, but 1222 67th St, Emeryville will drop you closer to the actual entry door. Enter the green doors on 67th St. Follow the corridor to a small set of stairs. Go up the stairs and our suite doors will be left of the security table.
