<H2>Introduction</H2>
At Progressive HackNight, we explore the intersection of tech and social justice. The 2020 Census is on the minds of many, from the <A HREF="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/23/us/noncitizens-census-political-maps.html?module=inline" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">citizenship question</A> to <A HREF="https://www.nyla.org/max/4DCGI/cms/review.html?Action=CMS_Document&DocID=2725&MenuKey=advocacy" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">underfunding outreach</A> to <A HREF="https://www.wired.com/story/us-census-2020-goes-digital/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">privacy concerns</A> to <A HREF="https://www.censushardtocountmaps2020.us/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">reaching hard to count communities</A>, our next hacknight will take a look at the unique technical challenges as well as long-standing political and social justice ones.
<H2>What do we want to happen? </H2>
We will discuss how crucial the Census is to the distribution of resources and redistricting, how community groups expect to reach hard to count populations, and how the availability of an online option for filling out the Census opens a pandora's box of digital security concerns.

We will be joined by Jonathan Chung, Civic Engagement Associate at MinKwon Center for Community Action; Greta Byrum, Co-Director of the Digital Equity Lab at the New School; and Monica Vargas-Huertas, Northeast Deputy Director of NALEO Education Fund.

This event is open to technologists, organizers, data enthusiasts, ux/ui, creatives, project managers, product managers, coders, etc, of all backgrounds/experiences.
Food will be provided!

After the programme, the community will break-out into two groups: a discussion group, and a working group. Please notify the team at <A HREF="mailto:steering@progressivehacknight.org" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">steering@progressivehacknight.org</A> if you want to announce a breakout group for that night.
DISCUSSION GROUP
Groups centered on learning new things, discussing solutions to addressable problems, building networks, and strategizing.
