Pitt Cyber provides a unique interdisciplinary environment for tackling cyber challenges. We bring the breadth of one of the world’s leading public research universities to bear on the critical questions of networks, data, and algorithms, with a focus on the ever-changing gaps among law, policy, and technology. Our collective of legal, policy, and technical researchers engages with policymakers and industry to create both actionable proposals to address current demands and fundamental insights to understand the future as it arrives.

<A HREF="https://www.cyber.pitt.edu/home" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pitt Cyber</A>, the<A HREF="http://sci.pitt.edu/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> School of Computing and Information</A>, and <A HREF="https://www.fordinstitute.pitt.edu/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">GSPIA’s Ford Institute for Human Security</A> are hosting a multidisciplinary hackathon. At Pitt, we believe that no one discipline has a lock on effective solutions to big problems. This is why we’re announcing our first annual Hacking4Humanity event.
Each year, we’ll pick seemingly intractable problems that call out for solutions from across disciplines—and ask you, the students, to dive in.
This year’s problem – Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain labor or a commercial sex act. 
Challenge scenarios, developed by GSPIA students, will be shared at the event to guide the development of teams' hacks, and include problems related to:

<LI>Prosecuting traffickers</LI>
<LI>Supporting survivors</LI>
</UL>
Goal:  Develop a tool to combat human trafficking and/or assist survivors.

 FAQs
Will this event help law enforcement target adult consenting sex workers?
No. This hackathon is intended to develop technology that prevents human trafficking and supports survivors. It does not look to develop technologies that impact consenting adult sex workers, but instead to prevent children and adults from being forced into labor or commercial sex. Hacking4Humanity will look for real solutions to raise awareness about human trafficking in our communities, support law enforcement efforts to arrest and prosecute traffickers, and connect survivors to the support services they need.
 What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
