About this event

Our Eco-Cruises are fully narrated environmental education tours – and the BEST way to explore the Hackensack River, the marshes of the Meadowlands, and Newark Bay. Bring a friend (or 2 or 3) and join us aboard our big, comfortable pontoon boats Robert H. Boyle II and Geraldine Theresa for a unique, informative, and FUN time on the water!

Our Meadowlands Discovery Tour is the original Hackensack River Environmental education tour! Watch wildlife, explore wetlands and learn all about the natural and human history of the Hackensack Meadowlands. Be sure to bring your binoculars and cameras!

REMINDERS:

Eco-Cruises are not free. We don’t charge fees, but they cost Hackensack Riverkeeper over $50,000 each season. We rely on donations to keep the program – and the boats – afloat. Typically, participants donate around $25-30 per person. All donations support our ongoing work and mission and are 100% tax-deductible.

FYI, Open Eco-Cruises are not for big groups. Open cruises are intended for a combination of individuals, couples, and parties of 6 or less. If you have a larger group please contact us.

Private Eco-Cruises for up to 10 or 20 people can easily be arranged. To learn more, call our office at 201-968-0808 or email Captain Hugh directly: hugh@hackensackriverkeeper.org.

We want to avoid no-shows. Avoid making “insurance reservations” by double or triple-booking cruises with no intention of making good on all of them. We cannot maintain a waiting list in Eventbrite, so if you make a reservation and cannot come, please cancel in Eventbrite so that the seat(s) can open up. Multiple reservations will be flagged for follow-up, preserving the first time slot and cancelling the other(s).

Children on Eco-Cruises: Kids must be at least four years old at the time of booking, to come on Open Eco-Cruises. We simply cannot accommodate children younger than that. Please note that everyone – child and adult alike – must be able to sit in one place for 2.5 hours.

Eco-Cruises depart from the boat launch at Laurel Hill County Park in Secaucus, NJ.
Be sure to download the park directions and our Helpful Trip Tips HERE.

Organized by

Founded in 1997 by Captain Bill Sheehan, Hackensack Riverkeeper is the leading environmental organization working on Hackensack River issues. The group engages in a fourfold strategy of environmental action, advocacy, education and enforcement in its work to protect, preserve and restore the Hackensack River Watershed. Our ongoing efforts mean protected wetlands, cleanups of toxic sites, restored habitats, better public access, and a new appreciation for the “River of Many Bends”!
