This workshop is designed to introduce beginners to programming in Python and how they can work with text datasets. The session will assume no background knowledge and introduce a range of key concepts to get you started.Attendees will be sent a full setup guide for using Python through Google Colab, and a set of learning materials covering the following topics:<ul><li>Basic data types in Python</li><li>Creating your own functions</li><li>Working with standard data file formats</li><li>Manipulating text as strings</li><li>Text cleaning and searching</li><li>Text similarity and clustering</li><li>Building web scrapers to collect content from web pages</li></ul>For questions about this event, please contact idsai-ecrn-committee@exeter.ac.uk.This activity is part of an ECRN Enhancement Award that has been funded by the University of Exeter Researcher Development and Research Culture team.
