<h3>HackadayU is pleased to offer Designing with Complex Geometry, with instructor James McBennett. </h3>Classes are live and will take place Tuesdays 6pm-7:30pm EDT (Starting May 4th). Q&amp;A with screen sharing will take place after each example for questions and help from the instructor. <a href="https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=superconference%40hackaday.io&amp;ctz=America%2FNew_York" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Link to the calendar</a> for easy timezone conversion.Overview: In this course, students will learn the following<ul><li>Class 1 - HELLO GRASSHOPPER: Introduction to Grasshopper3D's interface and working with variables for the first time. <a href="https://cdn.hackaday.io/images/original/2820581617654458273.gif" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Example 1: Bridges</a>. <a href="https://cdn.hackaday.io/images/original/1788711617654486695.gif" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Example 2: Attraction Points</a>.</li><li>Class 2 - DATA MGMT: Data is organized using lists that are grouped in branches. This class is about successfully managing large quantities of geometry. <a href="https://cdn.hackaday.io/images/original/5827891617654562239.gif" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Example 1: Flowers</a>. <a href="https://cdn.hackaday.io/images/original/5381911617654578705.gif" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Example 2: Galaxia</a> (Burning Man 2018)</li><li>Class 3 - MANIPULATING THE GRID: Grids often serve as a base geometry where further geometry is created on top of every grid point. Manipulating the grid manipulates everything built on it. <a href="https://cdn.hackaday.io/images/original/6363261617717339261.gif" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Example 1: Grid Deformation</a>. Example 2: Surface Morphing.</li><li>Class 4 - VECTORS AND FIELDS: Vectors and fields are used to influence geometry.</li><li>Class 5 - PHYSICS ENGINES &amp; OTHER PLUGINS: We'll look at some of the most common plugins for Grasshopper3D</li></ul>Schedule: The course will consist of five sessions in total. Each section will contain a live class that will present the concepts of the week followed by two examples using Grasshopper3D. Each example will be followed by time for each participant to work through it themselves while the instructor will be available for questions. Unedited video recordings of each class will be available to everyone registered for the course within 1-2 days (some class recordings may not be available due to technical issues/recording). All courses will be available as edited recordings about a month later on Hackaday's Youtube.Prerequisites: Previous experience of Rhino3D is helpful but not required. Previously, I studied architecture and spent some time in the architectural offices of OMA, JDS, and KPF. I've taught classes on digital geometry at University College Dublin and served as a guest critic in architecture at the Architectural Association, Oxford Brookes, and University of Westminster.
