Das Medienhaus Aachen veranstaltet von Donnerstag, 7.  bis Samstag, 9. November 2019, den Hackathon* “Smarter City - Hack the #datadome”.  Das Event rund um die Frage, wie das Leben in unserer Stadt angenehmer werden kann, findet in Zusammenarbeit mit dem <A HREF="https://de-de.facebook.com/aachen.digital/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">digitalHUB Aachen</A>, dem<A HREF="https://nma.vc" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> next media accelerator (NMA) </A>aus Hamburg und der Google News Initiative statt. Unterstützt wird die Veranstaltung von <A HREF="https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/shop/unternehmen.html" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Media Markt </A>und <A HREF="https://www.netaachen.de" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">NetAachen</A>. 
Worum geht’s?
Wir suchen Programmierer, Konzepter, Designer, Texter oder einfach Leute mit Spaß an Neuem, die drei Tage lang  tüfteln und digitale Ideen für ein besseres Aachen umsetzen möchten. Der inhaltliche Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Entwicklung von Tools, die Probleme im städtischen Alltag lösen, zum Beispiel in den Bereichen Infrastruktur, Stadtentwicklung, Freizeit und Mobilität. Der Raum Aachen bietet durch das Dreiländereck eine große Vielfalt, einen attraktiven städtischen Raum mit schöner Altstadt,  vielen Freizeit- und Kulturangeboten und einer innovativen Hochschullandschaft. Aber an einigen Stellen hakt es: Es gibt Bereiche in der Innenstadt, die durch leere Geschäftsräume verkommen, Großprojekte wie der Abriss des Parkhauses Büchel und die Neugestaltung des Bereichs kommen kaum voran und ein modernes Verkehrskonzept mit zukunftsfähigem Öffentlichen Nahverkehr, sicheren Radwegen, optimierter Verkehrsführung und genügend Parkraum ist längst überfällig. <A HREF="https://youtu.be/2axl-ghvdXg" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Wir haben uns vorab Gedanken gemacht und unsere Ideen gesammelt</A>. Während des Hackathons bietet Google euch einen exklusiven Zugang zur Google-Earth-Studio-API und stellt Smartphone-Lautsprecher (Google Home Minis) zur Verfügung. Wir bieten euch ein Forum zum Erfinden, Entwickeln und Netzwerken. Wer für seine Idee noch Mitstreiter sucht, ist hier genau an der richtigen Stelle und kann sein Start-Up im Zeitraffer-Modus auf die Strecke bringen. Beim Hackathon in der Aachener DIGITAL CHURCH findet ihr die perfekte Umgebung für Inspiration und Arbeit! Ihr könnt zweieinhalb Tage und zwei Nächte in spontan gebildeten Teams neue Konzepte für unsere Stadt entwickeln und sie gemeinsam umsetzen. Wenn sie uns überzeugen, helfen wir euch, sie erfolgreich an den Start zu bringen.
Wer wir sind?
Wir sind das führende Medienhaus in der Region Aachen, Düren, Heinsberg und bringen Menschen zusammen. Auf dem Weg in die digitale Zukunft sind wir offen für innovative Ideen. Wir entwickeln Inhalte und Produkte für unsere crossmedialen News-Angebote und Communities. Dazu gehören neben der Aachener Zeitung und den Aachener Nachrichten auch die Wochenzeitungen Super Sonntag und Super Mittwoch und das Stadtmagazin Klenkes. Weitere Geschäftsfelder sind Radio, Druck, Logistik, Messe- und Postwesen.
Wie könnt ihr euch einbringen?
Bringt eure Ideen mit konzipiert, hackt, baut, validiert und verfeinert eure Planung so gut und schnell ihr könnt und sichert euch einen der Preise oder Sonderpreise! Trefft bei uns Gleichgesinnte aus verschiedenen Branchen und Fachgebieten – Kreative, Entwickler, Redakteure, Bastler, Künstler. Im Idealfall hat jeder eine Idee im Gepäck - hier ist die einmalige Gelegenheit, um sie in Rekordzeit auf die Beine zu stellen. Aber auch wer keine eigene Idee in petto hat: Bringt einfach eure Fachkenntnisse, Fähigkeiten und euer Netzwerk in die Teams ein! Falls eine eurer Hackathon-Ideen zum Medienhaus Aachen passt oder uns restlos überzeugt, wollen wir sie zusammen mit euch bis zur Produktreife weiterverfolgen.
Woher kommen die Ideen?
Zu Beginn der Veranstaltung kann jeder Teilnehmer seine Idee vorstellen. Wenn ihr also jetzt schon eine spannende Idee habt, könnt ihr diese vorstellen. Aber auch wenn euch während der Ideen-Pitches spontan eine Idee kommt: Immer her damit! Nach den Ideen-Pitches kann jeder Teilnehmer entscheiden, an welcher Idee er gerne arbeiten möchte. Anschließend werden Teams gebildet.
Was kostet mich das?
Unser Hackathon kostet für Teilnehmer nichts.
Was muss ich mitbringen?
Ein Notebook, im besten Fall eine Idee und Motivation. Den Rest bekommt ihr von uns. Ihr werdet über die Dauer des Hackathons mit Essen und Getränken versorgt. Auch Bier und Mate werden kaltgestellt sein, um das Gehirn zu späterer Stunde zu motivieren.

*Was ist ein Hackathon?
Ihr wart noch nie bei einem solchen Event? Hier erfahrt ihr, was euch erwartet:
Auf einem Hackathon arbeiten Programmierer, Designer, Entrepreneure, Marketers und kreative Köpfe über mehrere Tage gemeinsam an einer Idee zu einem bestimmten Thema. Ein Geschäftsmodell und ein erster Prototyp werden in kleinen Teams entwickelt und anschließend einer Jury vorgestellt. Es geht um Leidenschaft fürs Hacken und neue Produkte, um die Lust auf Ergebnisse, neue Kontakte und sehr viel Spaß.

From Thursday, November 7th until Saturday, November 9th 2019 The media outlet Aachen holds a hackathon*: “Smarter City - Hack the #datadome”. The event is centered around the question how life in our city can made more comfortable and easier. It is organized in cooperation with the <A HREF="https://de-de.facebook.com/aachen.digital/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">digitalHUB Aachen</A>, the <A HREF="https://nma.vc" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">next media accelerator (NMA)</A> from Hamburg as well as with the Google News Initiative. <A HREF="https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/shop/unternehmen.html" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Media Markt</A> and <A HREF="https://www.netaachen.de" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">NetAachen</A> support the event too.
What is it all about?
We are looking for programmers, copywriters, designers or people who are just curious and eager to try something new and who would love to work on creating and developing digital ideas to improve the city of Aachen/ to make Aachen a better place. The focus is set upon the development of tools which help solve problems in everyday life. For instance, with regard to the topics infrastructure, city development, leisure as well as mobility. The Aachen area offers a very diverse environment due to its position in the “Dreiländereck” in between Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Moreover, it holds an attractive urban area with a beautiful historic center, many leisure and cultural activities as well as an innovative academic landscape. But there are some pain points: There are areas which look abandoned for shops have closed down and the locations are still vacant to the day. Large-scale projects like the tear down of the Büchel parking lot as well as the redesign of the area are stuck and the city is lacking a modern mobility concept including  sustainable public transport, safe bike lanes, optimized traffic management and sufficient parking spots. <A HREF="https://youtu.be/2axl-ghvdXg" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">We put a lot of thought into that prior to the Hackathon and collected our ideas</A>. 
During the Hackathon Google is going to offer exclusive access to the Google-Earth-Studio-API and provides Smartphone Speakers (Google Home Minis) for the participants. We offer you a forum/platform to invent, develop and network. For those, looking into putting up a team for their idea - the hackathon in the the place to be. In this environment one could build a startup from scratch in high speed. The Aachen DIGITAL CHURCH is the perfect location for inspiration &amp; successful work sessions. 
In two and a half days time, you will be able to build a team (random team member selection at site), develop and execute new concepts for our city. If you are able to convince us with your ideas, we happily support your journey and get you and your idea/project/pilot started. 
Who we are?
We are the leading media outlet in the Aachen, Düren, Heinsberg region - we are set out to connect people. On the road leading towards our digital future, we open up for innovative ideas. We develop content and  products for our cross-media news services and communities. Amongst which there are not only the Aachener Zeitung and Aachener Nachrichten but also the weeklies Super Sonntag, Super Mittwoch as well as the City Magazine “Klenkes”. Other fields of operations: radio, print, logistics, trade fairs and postal services. 
How will you be able to contribute? 
Just join and develop, conceptualize, hack, validate and fine tune your planning good and as quickly as possible. You are in it for the win! There are great prizes in various categories waiting for you. Meet and mingle with likeminded from different fields of expertise: Creative minds, developers, artists, editors. Ideally everyone got an idea in store already. This is the unique chance for you to put it into action in record time. But even if you do not have an idea yet, just contribute with your skills, knowledge and network. In case your hackathon ideas are the perfect fit for the media outlet Aachen or you are just super convincing we will take the path towards product maturity with you. 
Where do the ideas come from? 
In the beginning of the event every participant is allowed to present their idea. In case, you got an interesting idea already, you are free to present it. If you are having an idea during the pitching process - also very good. We take spontaneous entries as well. 
What does it cost?
The hackathon is for free. 
What do I need to bring?
All you need is a notebook, an idea and a ton of motivation. Everything else you will be receiving from our end. There will be sufficient food and beverages for you during all three Hack Days. In terms of late-night-working-motivation: We do have beer and mate in store!

You have never been to such an event? Don’t worry - we got you covered. At a hackathon programmers, designers, entrepreneurs, marketers as well as creative minds gather, form teams and spend a couple of days working on an topic centered idea intensively.  Small teams develop a business model and a first prototype during the work sessions. It is all about passion for hacking, new products, results and new contacts. But most of all: You are in it for the fun!
