About this event

Are you working on a website, app, game, pet project, or just want to learn something new? It can be difficult to find time to work on these things. The Hack & Tell is an event that gives you a dedicated time, space, and a group of people who also would like to build something interesting. Spend the whole day working on your project, or helping others with theirs.

The Hack & Tell is NOT an event where everyone has to work on the same thing. You can work alone, with a group, or with people you just met that morning. The Hack & Tell does NOT require you to present your project, but you can if you’d like! The Hack & Tell organizers do NOT want any rights to your intellectual property. Anything you dream up or work on is yours.

If you present, you will be entered into a drawing for some small, but fun, prizes.

Frequently asked questions

What should I bring?

Bring whatever you need to work on your project. Laptop, charger, power strips, maybe a short extension cord. In the past, people have brought entire VR setups with desktop computers!

Will there be food?

We will provide coffee and bakery for the morning. Some fruit, snacks, and beverages will be available thorough the day. Lunch will not be provided, but feel free to bring your own lunch. There are also many locations nearby to grab lunch, such as the Milwaukee Public Market.

Are there prizes?

If you present your project progress at the end of the day, you will be entered into a drawing for some small prizes. Typically these are fun / small things such as board games, notepads, etc.

Where should I park?

There are street parking available, paid parking garage options, and public transportation stops in the area. There are early bird specials under the bridge north of the intersection of East St. Paul, and North Jefferson St. See this map as well: https://www.historicthirdward.org/map
