Are you an herbalist who would like to start foraging more of your medicinal herbs? Maybe you'd like to learn how to procure food that exists outside of the modern supply chain? Or maybe you're just a foodie who wants to discover new and novel flavors? If you're one of these or anyone in between, we'd love for you to join us at the beautiful and diverse Dry Comal Trail for a guided foraging walk presented by Justin Trudeau of Birthright Foraging. This in-person event will introduce you to basics of foraging practices as well as aqcuaint you with the abundance of edible, medicinal and useful plants that grow in the New Braunfels area. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to grow your connection with nature and become more informed about the food and medicine that surrounds you. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle!

Will we be harvesting wild edible plants at this walk?

No, this walk is for educational purposes, we will not be harvesting wild edibles. In addition to it not being legal to harvest at Dry Comal Trail, this is to maintain the integrity and beauty of the trail for those who will come after us.

How many plants will we learn about?

Foraging can be unpredictable and dependent on recent weather conditions, but we expect to encounter at least a dozen edible or medicinal plants on this walk.

Is this class suitable for beginner foragers?

Yes, absolutely! This class will place a special emphasis on teaching new foragers about the best practices and ethics of foraging, as well as using approachable language to teach about the individual plants.

What do you mean by "useful" plants?

In addition to learning about the various edible and medicinal plants that grow in this area, you will learn about plants that can be used for other purposes such as fiber, dye, fire starter, tools, and more.

What if it rains?

If it rains, the class will be cancelled and refunds will be issued. We will contact you in the event of cancellation.

Where will we meet to start the walk?

The walk will start at the south trailhead of Dry Comal Creek Trail. This is the trailhead to the right when you pull into the baseball fields.
