    Frequently asked questions

    What is Coaching Supervision?

Coaching supervision, as defined by EMCC, fosters reflective dialogue with a supervisor, supporting the supervisee's growth, professionalism, and welfare. Its aims are: 1. Upholding standards 2. Enhancing professional practice 3. Supporting well-being.

How is Coaching Supervision different than Mentoring?

According to ICF, a Mentor Coach primarily supports a coach in achieving the levels of coaching competency. Coaching Supervision offers a coach a richer and broader opportunity for support and development and there may be a greater focus on reflective practice and the being of the coach.

What kind of topics are typically addressed in coaching supervision?

Supervision is not limited to reflection on specific client cases. It can be a forum in which the supervisee discusses ethical dilemmas, reflects on development areas, supports the supervisee to maintain well-being and psychological health, viewing their practice as if ‘from the balcony'.

How can you prepare for a coaching supervision session?

Think about what you want to take away from the supervision session and how are you going to present your topic. Any issues you need to talk about, any themes emerging for you in your coaching or mentoring work you would like to review, any further points that stand out and you need to talk about?
