Groove Gallery is creativity in connection. Call on the muses and express yourself within a container of communal ritual, prompted freewriting, open mic, and artist showcase. We welcome all forms of poetry, song, music, dance, and film.

Every third Wednesday at Nectar Social Club, a queer, black-owned haven in the heart of Downtown Oakland, CA. Our open mic centers the voices of QTBIPOC, Black Women, and Femmes. Allies welcomed.

shah noor hussein is a Sudanese writer, multimedia visual artist, and public scholar whose work bridges Black feminist thought and Queer diaspora studies. Currently a doctoral candidate and Cota-Robles Fellowship at UC Santa Cruz, shah's academic and creative journey explores themes of queer Black feminism, liberatory pedagogy, and popular culture. shah earned their masters in 2017 and serves as an adjunct professor at California College of the Arts. Their writing has been featured in anthologies alongside renowned authors like Maya Angelou and Sonia Sanchez, and their experimental films and photography have been showcased at various national and international venues. Additionally, shah has taught courses at prestigious institutions like UC Berkeley and Stanford University, supported by grants and fellowships that reflect their commitment to amplifying marginalized voices and exploring alternative epistemologies.

Brandy Collins, the self-proclaimed Professional Auntie, is the host for "I Have Questions" podcast, a consulting strategist and a contributing writer for Oakland Voices, Non Profit Quarterly, Oaklandside, Berkeleyside-Nosh, Chronicle Datebook, and Thrillist.

Naira (she/they) is an Afro-Caribbean-American figurative painter. She's often found out-and-about at her favorite bars, cafés, and parks, people watching and drawing her loved ones as well as strangers. Her drawings from life are an intimate meditative practice. Noticing the details in a person or location ties them to the moment, emotions, and subsequent memory. Her paintings draw upon many intersecting identities, specifically being Black, West Indian, queer, and femme. Naira sings and plays the piano, and is greatly inspired by soul, jazz, and R&B.

Aïma Paule Aïma the Dreamer, they/them, is a multi-disciplinary artist, musician, event producer, and activist based in Oakland, CA. With a career spanning over two decades, Aïma has made a significant impact locally, nationally, and internationally through their films, art exhibitions, performances, event productions, and hosting. As an accomplished event producer with a rich history of managing successful QTBIPOC centered community events, dance parties, including DJs and live performers. Aïma's expertise extends to organizing transformative events, providing essential platforms for empowerment and artistic expression within the community.
