Grip - Master Performance
Interdisciplinary piece melting voice, dance and cello using improvisational processes
Grip tells the story of this body that should be heard but not seen, should sound but not feel. A body that is voice and a voice that is a medium. A medium that we want stripped from its individuality. It explores the dichotomy between taking space and being allowed space in our own artistic practice. Through movement, music and voice, it explores and invites both performers and audience to question the boundaries of our perceptions and realities.
The piece creates a dialogue between cello, the cellist and mine's body, my voice and the audience.
The piece is based on improvisational and interdisciplinary practices. It first emerged from researching vocality through physicality and planned improvisation to rid myself of the learnt rigidity from classical training.
