<p>CODING...FRIENDS...FUN!</p><p>Please join the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/greenfieldCoderDojo" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Greenfield CoderDojo</a> for this live  and in person meeting on <strong>Sunday, October 2nd, 2022</strong>, at the <a href="https://www.ninestarconnect.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ninestar Connect</a> Conference Center, sponsored by the <a href="https://www.ninestarconnect.com/support/ninestar-nerds/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ninestar Connect Nerds</a>. If you are between the ages of 7-17, come show or learn some coding skills, have fun, eat a snack, and maybe make a new coding friend or two...always for <strong>FREE</strong>!</p><h3>********************************************************************************</h3><h3><strong>1:00 PM - THREE GROUPS</strong></h3><p>Seating will be divided into <strong>three</strong> groups. </p><h3>No Coding Experience Group Projects:</h3><p>The first group will be for <strong>kids with no coding experience</strong>. This group of coders will learn coding through <strong>instructor-led</strong> introductory Scratch projects. <a href="https://scratch.mit.edu/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Scratch</a> is an engaging, block-based programming language that is perfect for learning coding without requiring much typing. You will be given time to express your own creativity while exploring the basic features of Scratch.</p><h3>Some Coding Experience Group Projects:</h3><p>The second group will be for <strong>kids with some coding experience</strong>. This group of coders will learn coding through <strong>self-led</strong> more advanced Scratch projects. The coders in this group should have <strong>experience</strong> using <a href="https://scratch.mit.edu/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Scratch</a>. The developers of the Scratch programming language created it to have a low floor, but a high ceiling, meaning you can learn the basics easily, but you can create just about anything you can imagine.  You will be given time to express your own creativity while learning the more advanced features of Scratch.</p><h3>Experienced Group Projects:</h3><p>The second group will be for <strong>kids with more coding experience</strong>. This group of coders will learn more advanced coding using <a href="https://arcade.makecode.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Microsoft MakeCode Arcade</a> projects. Arcade includes advanced block-based coding, but also allows for JavaScript coding. JavaScript is text-based and is great for learning your first professional language after mastering Scratch. You will be given time to express your own creativity while learning Microsoft MakeCode Arcade. <strong>You will need to know how to type to join this group.</strong> </p><h3>********************************************************************************</h3><h3><strong>2:00 PM - QUICK SNACK</strong></h3><p>Snacks will be provided for both the coders and their parents/caregivers who stay for the event. </p><h3>********************************************************************************</h3><h3><strong>2:10 PM - MICRO:BITS</strong></h3><p>Coders will <strong>optionally</strong> take part in this activity. <a href="https://microbit.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Micro:bits</a> are pocket-sized computers that introduce you to how software and hardware work together. A micro:bit has an LED light display, buttons, sensors, and many features that - when programmed - let it interact with you and your world. We will do some introductory, but fun projects for all coders.</p><p><strong>IMPORTANT:</strong> if you 1) would like to participate in the micro:bit project and if you 2) have attended a previous session of our Dojo and were given a micro:bit, USB cable, and a battery pack, <strong>please bring them with you</strong>. If you do not have a micro:bit, you will be given one to keep - for free! - courtesy of <a href="https://www.ninestarconnect.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ninestar Connect</a>.</p><h3>********************************************************************************</h3><h3><strong>3:00 PM - HAVE A SAFE TRIP HOME</strong></h3><p>Please join our <a href="https://zen.coderdojo.com/dojos/us/greenfield-in/greenfield-ninestar-connect" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Greenfield Dojo</a> and follow us on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/greenfieldCoderDojo/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Facebook</a>. We normally meet on the <strong>first Sunday</strong> of each month, but that date may change due to holidays and availability of the NineStar Connect Conference facility. Look for your invitation in email. We hope you had fun while learning some coding skills. See you next month!</p><h3>********************************************************************************</h3><h3><strong>COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES</strong></h3><ul><li>Attendance at these sessions will be limited to <strong>25 coders</strong></li><li>The Ninestar Connect Conference Center will be cleaned before the event</li><li>Masks are recommended, but not required</li><li>Tables for coders will be kept approximately six feet apart, but coders from the same family may sit at the same table or move their tables together if desired</li><li>All close (less than six feet) interactions between coders, parents/caregivers, and volunteers should be limited to five minutes or less</li><li>If a coder or any member of their family is experiencing any of the following symptoms, they should not attend the event: fever or chills (temperature greater than 99.9), sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing (especially new onset, uncontrolled cough), diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache (particularly new onset of severe headache, especially with fever), new loss of taste or smell</li></ul><p>Currently, per the <a href="https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/2393.htm" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Indiana COVID-19 Dashboard</a>, Hancock County is in <strong>yellow </strong>status. Should it change to <strong>red</strong> status at any time before this Greenfield CoderDojo Live event, the event will be canceled and all registered coders will be notified.</p><h3>********************************************************************************</h3><h3><strong>LAPTOPS</strong></h3><p>Please bring a <strong>fully charged laptop computer</strong>. The main seating area of the Ninestar Connect Conference Center does not have electrical outlets, but we will have charging tables on the sides of the room.</p><p>If you do not have access to a laptop, we will have <strong>10 Chromebooks</strong> available for use, first come, first served. Please indicate on your registration if you would like to borrow one of our Chromebooks.</p><h3>********************************************************************************</h3><h3><strong>T-SHIRTS</strong></h3><p>We still have just a few cool custom <strong>Greenfield CoderDojo and Ned the Ninestar Connect Nerd T-shirts</strong> available in <strong>smaller</strong> sizes. Unfortunately, we do not have any planned activities for the adults, but we would love to have you stay and see what your coder is learning!</p><h3>********************************************************************************</h3><h3><strong>FAQS</strong></h3><p><strong>What is CoderDojo?</strong></p><p><a href="https://coderdojo.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CoderDojo</a> is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to provide students worldwide the opportunity to learn coding and to be creative in a safe and social environment...<strong>for free! </strong></p><p><strong>Who should complete the registration?</strong></p><p>A parent/caregiver can complete the registration for the coder (child), or a coder 13 years of age or older can complete it themselves. Up to four tickets can be reserved during registration.</p><p><strong>Whose information goes where in the registration?</strong></p><p>If a parent/caregiver completes the registration, they should enter their name and email address in the Contact Information section, and then enter their coder&#x27;s name in the Ticket 1 - Coder section. The email address in the Ticket 1 - Coder section can be that of the parent/caregiver or the coder.</p><p>If a coder completes the registration, they should enter their parent/caregiver&#x27;s name and email address in the Contact Information section, and then enter their name and email address in the Ticket 1 - Coder section.</p><p><strong>Is the number of coder tickets limited?</strong></p><p>Due to COVID-19, the number of coder tickets is limited to 25, but we will have a wait list in case any coder cancels. </p><p><strong>What age must I be to participate in the Greenfield CoderDojo Live event?</strong></p><p>Coders must be between the ages of 7-17. </p><p><strong>Do I need a laptop computer to participate?</strong></p><p>If you have access to a laptop computer, please bring it with the battery fully charged. We will have a few charging tables around the outside of the conference room. If you do not have access to a laptop computer, we will have 10 Chromebooks available for use, first come, first served. </p><p><strong>How much does it cost to attend The Greenfield CoderDojo Live event?</strong></p><p>It is completely free and even includes a snack!</p><p><strong>Do I need to know coding to attend?</strong></p><p>No, you do not have to have any coding experience to join us. However, you will go home a coder! </p><p><strong>What is Scratch?</strong></p><p>Scratch is a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations. If you have little or no coding experience, no problem! Come on in and learn an little bit about Scratch with us!</p><p><strong>What is Microsoft  MakeCode Arcade?</strong></p><p>Microsoft MakeCode Arcade is a 2D pixelated game development environment that is free and entirely online. Students can design their own game characters and code their behaviors using Blocks or JavaScript. If you know Scratch and are ready to move on, join us for a next step in coding!</p><p><strong>What time should I arrive?</strong></p><p>You should plan on arriving a few minutes before 1 pm EST. It takes a few minutes for us to check you in, check out a Chromebook if you need one, and borrow a mouse if you want one.</p><p><strong>Will you provide food?</strong></p><p>Well, sort of. Snacks and bottled water will be provided for all coders and their parents/caregivers who stay for the event.</p><p><strong>Where should I park?</strong> </p><p>There is plenty of free parking at the Ninestar Connect Conference Center. </p><p><strong>What doors should I enter?</strong> </p><p>Please enter the doors on the southwest side of the conference center by the patio.</p><p><strong>What if I have other questions?</strong></p><p>Please contact the Champion of the Greenfield CoderDojo at greenfield@coderdojo.com. </p><p><strong>What if I register, but later determine I cannot attend?</strong></p><p><em>Please</em> email the Champion of the Greenfield CoderDojo at greenfield@coderdojo.com as soon as possible.
