Making a DifferenceThe Community is our Classroom. This signifies that our teaching is deeply rooted not only in solid theoretical foundations but also in the rich knowledge drawn from the community and region by the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES). We offer various research programs through the Water Resources Institute and the 143-acre Firebird Research Farm in Beltsville, MD. CAUSES offers community outreach programs for all ages. Our community education programs through our land-grant centers are: (1) The Center for Urban Agriculture & Gardening Education, (2) The Center for Urban Resilience, Innovation and Infrastructure which includes the Water Resources Research Institute, and (3) The Center for Nutrition Diet & Health which includes the Institute of Gerontology and Snap-Ed. In addition, the college provides innovative academic programs in urban architecture and community development, urban sustainability, health education, nursing, and nutrition and dietetics.

UDC-CAUSES

Gain the knowledge and technical skills needed for the inspection, construction and maintenance of green infrastructure projects.

During these challenging times, take advantage of a virtual learning opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge and technical skills needed for the inspection, construction and maintenance of green infrastructure projects. Green infrastructure is rapidly being implemented to manage stormwater across the District of Columbia. DC Water, in partnership with the Water Environment Federation (WEF), launched the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP) to train, qualify, and certify eligible participants for the green infrastructure workforce. The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) provides the NGICP exam training at no cost to District residents. This training is a prerequisite for the NGICP exam. This particular training is offered only to D.C. residents with a high school education. Proof of residence and a high school diploma or GED will be requested prior to the start of class. This training will prepare participants with green infrastructure knowledge and the technical skills needed for the successful inspection, construction and maintenance of sites, and will help ensure that District residents have opportunities to broaden their current career path or embark on a new career path in green infrastructure. The length of the virtual training program is approximately one week, with additional self-paced learning modules. Participants must complete a mandatory information session about the program. Space is limited for the training program.
