Meet Hikely, we mean, Marly.Marly Benedicto is the creator and founder of Hikely LLC. The company was established in January 2016, and since it's then Marly has traveled around the world leading trails throughout Costa Rica, Peru, Bali and Canada. This company was founded with the desire to bring people closer to a sense of themselves through nature. "It is in nature that we lose our inhibitions and regain touch with our most innocent and original self." says founder Marly Benedicto, "It's easy to be taken over by a sense of curiosity and wonder on the trail."How did you come up with the idea of Hikely?"Well, I was sitting on a beach in Kauai with a journal in my lap and furrowed eyebrows. I had fallen out of love with a corporate career in the retail fashion industry, and found myself at a crossroads. Without any idea of what was ahead, I had already committed to ending a very successful and decade long career.Written in cursive on my journal pages were lists of what brought me a sense of fulfillment, what I would do for free and how I wanted to give back to the world. I took a break and stared at the ocean's expansiveness. I breathed deep and fell into a familiar state of meditation. And then it came to me, rolling in all at once as quickly as the waves hit the shore in front of me. Hiking."Why hiking? What does hiking mean to you?"I've always believed in taking your troubles to the trail. When I first moved to Los Angeles and was overwhelmed by many aspects of the city life, I took it the trail. When I was 24 and had my heart shattered, I took it to the trail. When I was 29 and for the first time in my life facing new heights of anxiety from my career, I took it to the trail. Nature is so much more than a place to escape to, it is a place in which to find yourself. As a meditation teacher, I always interweave nature's teachings into my client's sessions. There is no separation from us and Pacha Mama at the roots of it."What is Pacha Mama?"That's the earth."Of course. This leads me to my next question: Hikely offers a diverse range of hikes varying from tourist attractions and partnering with Los Angeles top boutique hotels to holistic nature retreats cohosted with local mindfulness celebrities. How does the company balance these two very different customer bases?"Great question! It took me nearly two years to figure that one out myself. Everyone deserves to know what it's like to lose themselves in nature. Not everyone knows what that looks like, or how to get started. When I lead hikes with tourists, so many guests I meet have never been on a hike before. This use to shock me, now it excites me. I am providing opportunities for everyone to have an experience in nature. Regardless of where the customers find me, whether it's from a local event or from a 5 star hotel, more often than not the conversation on the trail turns to mindfulness. It's important to bridge the gap, and to make nature and clarity of mind are accessible to all."That's beautiful. What's the vision for Hikely in 2018?"2018 will be a year of collaboration and growth for the brand. I will secure our relationships with luxury boutique hotels across Los Angeles while also offering a wide variety of frequent retreats for locals. I'm already in the works of partnering with Women's Groups, Sound Bath Practitioners, Yoga Teachers and more communities across Los Angeles. It will be a lot of fun to experiment and see what sticks and what doesn't as I more fully integrate the mindfulness aspect to the company. I'm looking for participation and feedback!"Last Question, what is your favorite hiking trail in Los Angeles?"Ah, that's a good one that only my closest friends and family know. I can't give that one away, but I can recommend a trail with a captivating view that ends with a meditation labyrinth in Topanga. The trail is called Tuna Canyon and is about a 2 mile loop if you begin at the Topanga trailhead. It's a remote and dog friendly trail. As always, I recommend that the first time you visit a trail that you bring a friend along. OptOutside this Black Friday and join us for our Gratitude Hike. Meet us on the trail Friday November 25th from 2pm to 6pm. We are getting together post Thanksgiving to celebrate in nature for all that have to be grateful for! During this 4 hour workshop we will lead you on a hike through the Santa Monica Mountains to a scenic Pacific Ocean overlook. Here we'll stretch out to a yoga class lead by <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/Jonatans15" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jonatan Silva</A> and unwind to a guided meditation by <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/marlyrulz" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Marly Benedicto</A>. Twelfth House Readings will lead a gratitude activity and afterwards we'll have time to reflect and share as a group.  Outdoor yoga mats as well as snacks and drinks will be provided. Bring your sunglasses, a hand towel, SPF, and a waterbottle.
