About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join staff at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library for an open discussion of our favorite Graphic Novels. Each month, we focus on a specific theme and related graphic novel. This month’s theme is Pride Month.

    This Month's Book:

    The Secret to Superhuman Strength

    By Alison Bechdel

From the author of Fun Home, a profoundly affecting graphic memoir of Bechdel's lifelong love affair with exercise, set against a hilarious chronicle of fitness fads in our times.

Readers will see their athletic or semi-active pasts flash before their eyes through an ever-evolving panoply of running shoes, bicycles, skis, and sundry other gear. But the more Bechdel tries to improve herself, the more her self appears to be the thing in her way.

The New York Public Library’s largest circulating branch—the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL)—is currently open for nearly full service following a full-scale renovation. Located at the site of the former Mid-Manhattan Library, the new, state-of-the-art library, designed by architect Francine Houben, of Mecanoo, with Beyer Blinder Belle, features services for all ages, thanks to a generous gift from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and support by the City.
