The Jungki Kwan, an academy of traditional martial arts, was opened to spread the spirit of traditional martial arts on October 24, 1974 by Lim, Hyun Soo. He was born as the second child at Gue-Chang, Kyungnam Province on September 7,1945. Jungki Kwan Founder Lim had a special interest in the martial arts at his early age. In middle school, he had practiced a "Dang-Su", a kind of martial art. He graduated from Gue-Chang High School and attended the Yeungam University. While studying at the college he could not erase his interest and desire toward learning traditional martial arts. In 1965, JKK Founder Grand Master Lim had his first meeting with Hapkido. He felt a mysterious charm that made him decide to walk the way of martial artist . At first, he was taught by Master Kim Yeung-Jae, Hapkido Founder Choi Yong Sool's senior pupil. Time progressed and while teaching the students, he couldn't contain his desire to be the best martial artist. He then revisited Founder Choi, and became his pupil until 1981 in which he endured strict and hard training. During that special training period, he came to know Hapkido's true value and meaning so he opened theJungKi Kwan on October 24, 1974. In 1976, Founder Choi Yong Sool, closed his dojang, joined the Jungki Kwan and devoted his energy to it for the rest of his life.
After studying numerous sword and sword-related arts in Japan and Korea., in 1985 he introduced kuhapdo for the first time in Korea. This introduction played a big role in restoring and developing Korean traditional swordsmanship by instructing and spreading kuhapdo. Also, in 1985 to popularize and globalize kuhapdo, he established and introduced Chung Suk Kuhapdo for the first time. Since then Chung Suk Kuhapdo has been taught and has spread throughout the world.
