Have you ever found yourself confused by what people have told you the Bible says about gender or sexuality and your own understandings of Jesus teaching about love? Are you worn out by people who use "clobber verses" against queer people but you worry that you don't know enough about the Bible or theology to respond? Then this event is for you!
Join us at the end of Pride Month on Thursday, June 27, from 5:30pm-7:00pm for a special event to learn and dig more deeply into Scripture and theology. Father Jared Cramer, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church and a member of the Steering Team for the Ottawa Coalition of Unifying Christians (https://www.unifyingchristians.com), will present a lecture-style offering entitled "God, Bible, Gender, and Sexuality." The first sixty minutes will be presentation based and the final thirty minutes will be for questions and conversation. You'll come away with a stronger understanding of the Scripture and theology behind these questions and more resources to dig into if you'd like to learn more.
All funds raised from ticket sales will be donated to Grand Haven Pride (http://ghpride.org), a group that fosters justice and inclusivity by providing visible and engaging opportunities, events, and education to establish an affirming community for all.
Father Cramer holds a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies, with a minor in Biblical Languages, from Rochester Christian University. He also holds a Master of Divinity from the Graduate School of Theology at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX, along with both a Master of Sacred Theology and a Doctor of Ministry from the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. Having been raised in an evangelical and fundamentalist tradition, it was study of the Bible–especially in the original languages of Greek and Hebrew–while an undergraduate and then graduate student at conservative universities that he found his own views changed.
