About this event

  • 23 hours 30 minutes

Every year since 2010 people around the world have been going to places they care about that are damaged or endangered, sharing stories about the places, and making gifts of beauty—gratitude, sorrow, love— for them.

This year on June 15, we continue this beloved tradition of the Global Earth Exchange!

Gather your friends, your family, your colleagues—and make a pilgrimage to a place you love that’s under threat. As thousands of people have discovered over the years, when you seek out a wounded place and find and make beauty there, you:

  • reconnect with the life of the place, despite what’s happened to it
  • form new bonds with others in your community who also care
  • remind the Earth how beautiful it is
  • discover that, even in hard times, you can make a difference
  • experience the joy of giving back to a place that has given so much to you

To find out which webinar works best for you, see the World Clock.

Your hosts will tell the history of the Global Earth Exchange, explain why it's such an important event for people and the places they love, share stories of previous Global Earth Exchanges, and describe the five steps (below) of how to hold your own Global Earth Exchange.

You'll explore questions like:

  • How do I find my wounded place?
  • How do I describe the Global Earth Exchange to my friends?
  • What do we do once we get there?
  • What's the best way to make a "gift of beauty"?

The webinars are offered at two different times to accommodate the many different time zones of RadJoy's worldwide members. Both webinars will be recorded if you can't attend live. The webinars are free, but donations are welcome.

There are 5 suggested steps of the Global Earth Exchange:

(Steps 1 and 5 are the only really essential ones!)

For your gift of beauty, it's a tradition to create a RadJoy Bird, made with materials the place itself offers, but any gift you make is beautiful!

If you're unable to do your Global Earth Exchange on June 15, just make your visit any time during that week. The Earth welcomes gifts of beauty at any time!

When you've completed your event, post your story and photos on this Share-a-Story form, and your story will appear on our website.

REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE AND RECEIVE A RADJOY FLAG!

If you’re ready to make a commitment to a hurt place and are one of the first 75 people to sign up for the 2024 Global Earth Exchange, you'll receive a beautiful hand-painted Radical Joy for Hard Times flag made by Sarah Pimenta. Sarah is a noted fabric artist who has worked with communities in the UK and Africa to make beauty in places that have suffered hard times. Working with Cath Bristow, she's making this year's flags out of plants that grow wild and plentifully in Britain, such as madder, logwood, weld, and coreopsis.

(NOTE: we can only send flags to those who have identified their chosen place.)
