Whether it’s for one project, or to launch your career in tech, Girls in Tech’s CODE G Level I is a great place to start!This online course covers the fundamentals of Python, including: <ul><li>The power of data science</li><li>Data types</li><li>Basic scripting</li><li>Rapid prototyping</li><li>Web APIs </li><li>Analyzing tabular data. </li></ul>This four-week online class is for everyone – regardless of your background, experience, or location.In this hands-on, interactive online classroom, we’ll show you what’s possible through coding in Python. We aim to inspire you with a deeper interest in software and tech as you solve problems individually and in small teams. You’ll gain insights into how to automate a variety of tasks, crunch data, and interact with web API services worldwide.You’ll learn about the elegance and power of the Python language, the breadth of its amazing ecosystem and will be well-placed to continue learning more in the future!Check out our syllabus, below:Session 1: Getting startedSession 1 introduces what Python is and how you can start using it for basic scripting and automation tasks, including tips and tricks on making this easy:<ul><li>Why Python? What&#x27;s possible?</li><li>The Jupyter notebook for rapid prototyping</li><li>Packages, modules, and scripts</li><li>Python concepts: an introduction through examples.</li></ul>Session 2: DatatypesPython is blessed with a rich set of built-in data types that make it easy to solve a range of interesting problems. This session introduces the most important ones:<ul><li>Essential data types: strings, tuples, lists, dicts</li><li>Example: puzzle-solving.</li></ul>Session 3: Interacting with web APIsSession 3 gives you an opportunity to explore and engage with web services via web APIs, such as:<ul><li>Fetching real-time global weather data</li><li>Ordering food via the UberEats API</li><li>Sending text messages automatically.</li></ul>Session 4: Analyzing tabular dataSession 4 gives you an introduction to slicing and dicing data from spreadsheets and databases:<ul><li>Reading and writing essential data formats: CSV, Excel, SQL</li><li>Indexing and filtering data with Pandas</li><li>Data fusion: joining and merging datasets</li><li>Summarizing data with pivot tables.</li></ul>Who it’s forPeople worldwide from various backgrounds without coding experience who would like to learn how to code in Python.PrerequisitesBasic computer literacy is expected. No prior knowledge of coding is required.FormatInteractive online instruction with streaming video, live coding exercises, and competitive team puzzles.HomeworkBetween weekly sessions you’ll form groups and apply your new skills to self-selected project topics. We suggest 4 hours of project work each week as a guideline.Dates and timesFour weekly sessions starting on Monday July 5th and ending on July 26th.
