Free Bird Being is an evening-length live art in the round that consists of an ensemble of intergenerational women, and concerns growth: the immeasurable and the elemental. It’s alongside, keeping pace in every area. Free Bird Being uses the body to stir up memory, possibility, and movement into warmth and closer relationship.Free Bird Being follows artist Lauri stalling’s longstanding inquiries addressing the lives of Southern people. It takes a cue from Poet Laureate Pearl Cleage’s poem “This Space That We Have Made Together.” The piece features an intergenerational band of Georgia musicians coming together for the first time.Unfolding in three cycles over the next two years, the project will travel to communities in the Deep South in a series of site-based works, tailored through residencies with each of our partners. glo’s engagement with the Serenbe community marks the project’s official Opening. About glo Platformglo is an Atlanta-based Southern women, artist-led intergenerational and multi-disciplined platform that uses creative practices to raise consciousness, repair communities, create change, and bring forth social impact through direct action. Our platform believes every body dances; every body plays a central role for engaging deeply with notions of transformation and identity beyond the human centric. Rooted in community mapping and a hybridity of forms, our collaboratively-devised work emphasizes interconnectedness, solidarity networks, and place-based forms of knowledge, for long-term healing of the great wounds in our bodies.Choreography is the soul of our work, breaking down barriers, lifting society from below.We are believers in civic imagination to save earth.We are believers in a non-binary future.
