Q: Does every idea move forward?

No! Usually <50% of pitches move forward - we can only cover so much ground in a weekend! We strongly suggest joining another team even if your idea is not selected. There is so much to learn and so many connections to be made!

Q: Do I need to bring a shirt?

Yes! This year we are switching to a more sustainable solution and asking attendees to bring a shirt they already own or to thrift a shirt they love and bring it to be screen printed on site.

Q: How is funding distributed?

Funding will be distributed to teams based on their proposed next steps and their depth of work on the judging criteria. Historically we have funded 3-5 teams each year in $500-$7,500 increments.

Do I have to pitch an idea?

Accepted Answer

No! Many people come to GiveBackHack to hear the ideas of others, join a team they are interested in, and utilize their skills to support an idea they did not come up with.

You might surprise yourself though, many people who don't plan to pitch end up pitching.

How does the pitch process work?

Accepted Answer

Anyone who wants to pitch can submit an idea in advance or at the start of the event. You will have 60s to share your idea and convince the audience you should move forward. We will use a digital crowd voting process to select the top teams who will move forward.

Will you teach us how to pitch?

Yes! You don't need any previous pitching experience we will give you everything you need to know in advance.
