GIS Workshop

The Maryland Geographic Alliance (MGA) is a network of university faculty, K-12 educators, and a wide array of organizationsand institutions working to promote and enhance geographic education across Maryland. MGA is headquartered at Towson University, where it is focused on rebuilding and strengthening its network of professional geographers and educators.Professional development is a major goal of the Maryland Geographic Alliance. Since 1989, more than 14,000 educators have participated in our programs that emphasize geography content and incorporate hands-on activities. Workshops, summer institutes, and mini courses provide specific support for teachers of middle school world cultures, AP human geography, and geospatial technologies.

Maryland Geographic Alliance

<P>The Maryland Geographic Alliance will be hosting a GIS workshop <SPAN>that will prepare teachers assigned to teach GIS classes. Members of MSGIC (the Maryland State Geographic Information Committee) and DoIT (the Department of Information Technology) will lead this all day workshop. The day will open with a four hour "Thinking Spatially" course, followed by a lunch and networking session with MSGIC members, then a demo of free data made available by the state. This is a great opportunity for teachers - especially those who are expected to lead the proposed AP GIS&T course at their school. Hope to see you there!</SPAN></P>
