Join us for GHOST BARRELS, the final event and closing performance of the Sick Center at Recess. Artists lu yim, funto omojola, and Anna RG premiere an experimental work that invites audiences into a fragmentary mapping—circling sound, history, and imagination to get closer to something just out of reach.Since the spring, the trio has been in conversation, beginning with the apparition of the historical “bed piano” built for horizontal invalid players. Together, they trace tangential infrastructures, sick score-making, fictional music, and the colonial resonances of “playing the melody with your trigger finger.” Through this collaborative exploration, they uncover what is filled in, what’s left to the imagination, and what disturbances emerge through shared connection and permission between disabled artists.The creation of this work is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).<a href="https://www.recessart.org/projects/284-sick-music-center" title="https://www.recessart.org/projects/284-sick-music-center" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sick (Music) Center</a> ais presented as part of <a href="https://www.recessart.org/programs/4-session" title="https://www.recessart.org/programs/4-session" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Recess’s Session program</a>, that provides artists the resources, space, and support to realize ambitious projects in collaboration with the public.Access Note: All program space at 46 Washington Avenue is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Our restrooms are gender-neutral and ADA-compliant. Administrative offices are located up one flight of stairs, but we offer alternative meeting and workspace on the ground floor. For programs in both of our spaces, we will do our best to accommodate requests. Her performances and installations have been presented at The Kitchen, Performance Space New York, and Roulette Intermedium, among others. She is a co-founder of the Sick Time Collective and author of Listening from Bed: Notes on Sick Music (forthcoming).
