About this event

Golden Gate University (GGU) Law Review cordially invites you to join us at the 12th Annual Ronald M. George Distinguished Lecture Series for an evening of lively discussion, featuring student presentations and a lecture and Q&A session with the Honorable Senior Circuit Judge Carlos T. Bea. The title of Judge Bea's lecture will be: "The Promotion of Liberty through the Separation of Powers.” Immediately following Judge Bea’s lecture, please also join us for a networking reception.

This flagship event will be held at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ stunning James R. Browning Courthouse in San Francisco, CA, on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

This free event has limited capacity, and reservations are honored on a first-come, first-served basis to invited Bay Area legal professionals, GGU faculty, alumni, and more. This year's event will provide an opportunity for great legal minds to discuss current judicial issues and to ask the Honorable Judge Bea questions about the Ninth Circuit. The event will also showcase student-written Notes that will be published in the GGU Law Review's forthcoming Ninth Circuit Survey. The Ninth Circuit Survey is the nation's only law review journal dedicated exclusively to decisions of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Judge Bea's Lecture: The title of Judge Bea's lecture will be: "The Promotion of Liberty through the Separation of Powers.”

RSVP Instructions: To reserve your seat at the 12th Annual Ronald M. George Lecture Series, please register below by March 28th, 2023 (or as seats remain available). Seating is limited for this event. All reservations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parking & Transportation: Public parking in the area is limited to street parking on Mission Street between 7th and 8th Streets. Several paid parking lots, both open and covered, are within walking distance of the building. The courthouse is a 3-minute walk from the Civic Center BART Station and a 1- to 2-minute walk from the Muni station at 7th & Mission.

Security: Guests must check-in with security upon arrival. It is a similar process to an airport TSA screening and involves the following steps: show a valid government-issued photo ID, remove all items from pockets and all metallic items from body (may include belts, watches and some jewelry), place all items from pockets and/or place all bags into a bin to run through the security x-ray scanner, and walk through a metal detector.

Note – some shoes have metal in the soles, and therefore, some guests should be prepared to remove their shoes at check-in. For fastest security clearance, we encourage guests to leave all weapon-like items at home (pocket knives, pepper spray, etc.).

Only 3 people max are permitted in the security checkpoint area at a time. Guests are encouraged to arrive between 4:00 PM and 4:45 PM to allow for security delays. And this may mean that some guests will have to wait in a line outside the courthouse while security brings people in 3 at a time.

Upon check-in, guests will be directed to the correct courtroom.

Dress code: Business Formal / Courtroom Appropriate

We look forward to seeing you there.
