Getting to Know Maps
The RBSCG Bibliographic Standards Committee is pleased to offer a half-day cataloguing workshop
The session will be an introduction to cataloguing maps. This will include calculating map scales, geographical areas and subject headings, and physical description for cartographic materials (sheet maps and atlases), including antiquarian materials, and guidance on where to find further information. This is not a training course for those learning to catalogue; rather it is intended for library staff who work with book, map or manuscript collections and would like further help on dealing with maps. It will focus on library cataloguing, creating MARC records using RDA and LCSH, although the general principles should be applicable to those using other systems. This will be an in-person event run jointly by the RBSCG and the Map Curators’ Group of the British Cartographic Society.
