About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

The GR Savvy Senior Learning Series is all about being proactive. Regardless of your age or health, there are a number of things that people of all ages should have in place to thrive. Each month we will present information that will help YOU remain in control even if life throws you a curveball.

ABOUT THIS MONTH'S EVENT! You may have wondered why some communities charge a significant buy in, and some do not. What is the difference between a community that is considered a “Continuing Care Retirement Community” aka “CCRC”, and similar communities that offer a wide array of services? We will hear from the communities themselves about their living options, care levels, amenities, costs, and more. Finally, we will talk about the questions to ask to decide if this option is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event and may I bring guests?

No. Everyone is invited and we welcome you to bring guests. If you have a parent or friend in this age range and want to learn more about how to keep them safe, this is a good place to start.

I have a friend that would like to attend but works during the day. Are the events recorded? Yes. The events are recorded and you can few our recent presentations on YouTube here YouTube - GR Savvy Seniors

I am not a member of Frederik Meijer Gardens, will I have to pay an entrance fee?

No! All Savvy Senior Learning Series registered attendees will receive free access to Meijer Gardens on the day of the event.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive around 9:30. Our numbers have been steadily growing, and it does take some time to get everyone checked in. You will be welcomed with a cup of coffee or tea, and lots of friendly faces if you are attending for the first time. Each presentation will start promptly at 10 am. We ask that you make every effort to be on time since the series is professionally recorded, but understand that life happens. If you must arrive late, simply enter as quietly as possible.

What are my parking options?

Parking is free. You will enter through the main entrance and follow any signs that say "Special Events". When you get to the area where you would present your ticket, you can let them know you are there for the series and you will be further directed to the Huizenga Grand Room South.

What should I bring?

Just you, a pen, and any friends who could benefit from this information. I will provide lapboards and booklets to take notes on. Now that I have sponsors, I am also able to provide all guests with coffee or water. We will have a list of all registered attendees at the check-in table. There is no need to print or bring your ticket.

I hear you give prizes- Is there anything I need to do to be eligible?

I do! As a thank you to all attendees, I give away a minimum of 3 prizes at each event. (typically gift cards) Every attendee will receive one ticket just for coming. If you are a first-time attendee, or bring a friend, both of you will be entered into a special drawing.

Will there be a Sales Pitch?

Never. The Learning Series is designed to be a safe place to gain knowledge with no pressure or sales pitch. You will receive a handout with contact info for all speakers and participating agencies. They will have additional info for you to take if you choose.

This is a great event! How can it be FREE?

Great question. The GR Savvy Senior Learning Series is generously supported by local businesses that serve seniors and desire to serve as Educational Partners. While this is NOT a sales event, we encourage our attendees to browse and ask questions in case they know someone in need of those services. Educational partners are not given attendee information unless the attendee wishes to share it.

I work for a Senior Community, or other business that directly serves seniors. Am I welcome to attend?

Yes. Seniors attendees will always take priority but as long as we have room, you are welcome to attend. Unless you are a current speaker or a current Educational Partner, handing out marketing material will be strictly prohibited.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
