Generative AI: Language, Images and Code - A Conversation with CSAIL

You've heard the buzz about ChatGPT and DALL-E; join CSAIL for a discussion on what you need to know about Generative AI and its future.

Generative AI is a hot topic these days, with large language models like ChatGPT making headlines and image generators such as DALL-E offering new ways to create visual content. But with all the buzz, it can be difficult to understand the reality of what this technology can offer. How do these models really work? What can they do? And what will they become in the future? Recent MIT CSAIL research has illuminated key aspects of generative AI technology, such as how they learn <a href="https://news.mit.edu/2023/large-language-models-in-context-learning-0207" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">in-context</a>, how to identify what individual <a href="https://news.mit.edu/2022/explainable-machine-learning-0127" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">components</a> in a large neural network are doing, and how to create AI models that will <a href="https://news.mit.edu/2019/toward-artificial-intelligence-that-learns-to-write-code-0614" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">generate code</a> and recognize <a href="https://news.mit.edu/2022/ai-learn-patterns-language-0830" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">patterns</a> in human language. The work being done at CSAIL is helping not only shape our understanding of what these models are capable of but also pushing the boundaries of what they can do next. On March 20, MIT CSAIL researchers Professor Daniela Rus, Professor Jacob Andreas, Professor Armando Solar-Lezama and Professor Phillip Isola will gather to look under the hood of generative AI and its various subfields, including program synthesis, large language models, computer vision, generative code, and more. These experts in the field will walk through potential impacts of this technology, its capabilities and limitations, and important considerations going forward. Join us in person at CSAIL or virtually. Space is limited on campus so please arrive early. Should the space fill up, overflow seating will be available. There will be a reception following the discussion for all in-person attendees.Please share your questions for the speakers on the registration form. We will not take live questions during the panel but will address questions shared when registering.
